I have seen quite a few comments randomly throughout the board on the topic of how Sideshow is doing Comic Con this year, and while it isn't over; I thought it might be interesting to hear what the consensus is. This is the first year that they have spread their coverage over the entire month, with a slow trickle of orders as opposed to four days of mass-ordering craziness.

For those attending does this take away from the draw of attending? It does for me personally, as I like to walk in on preview night and get all my orders in and done; so far I think I prefer frenzy to the drip. It makes attending the show more of an incentive, and we all know how revelatory that first trip to the Sideshow booth is every year - I can't help but think that it won't quite be the same this time around. Of course knowing Sideshow they may still have a surprise or two in store. :lol

Keep it civil, but what do you all think? :dunno

I like the new format because it drags it out a lot more so it is a bit more excited. Although depending on the preview I really want to know right it away what it is, so an entire month of this might be a little nerve racking. So far I am liking it more than hating it.

I like it but I dont. I like the fact that I'm not caught off guard with certain items. I would hate to miss something I have been waiting years for, so I like the preview stuff. I do agree with you about the excitment part of it. I dont have the same type of excitement about when items would go up for order as I have in the past, so the craziness in some ways made it exciting. I think this new format is meant to entice the non attendees more than the attendees, so I do like the fact that SS is doing that for us. The gift card stuff is cool as well..............

I prefer to see it all up close in person the first time and order at the show. There is just something about it that is kind of fun. Plus not having to fight anyone when something comes up but so far that hasn't been an issue. Its part of the perks for going to the show.

Does that take away from the entire event for me? Nah, not really. I'm there to see everything, meet up with friends, and have a good time. So it doesn't take away from that.

I expect a surprise or two at least. Part of the showing of new items goes through the show. So we'll have things from that to see that others haven't. I'm sure it makes things easier on Sideshow to do it this way. Less paperwork when they get back.

I like the new format... but I'm not an attendee so this new style seems more geared towards us. But, I like the daily products and teases... makes for a fun, but low key event.

Indifferent. While I can see that for people attending its neat to get the jump on the general populous and order it not having to worry about going online is a neat perk, it is nice to know that things will be shown ahead of time then know that there'll be actual images from seeing it in person at the Con.

I don't like the month thing though, I think it'd be better to do it a week before maybe or even have themed Thursdays where they just let the cat's out of the bag. I'm not sure if its because of what has been announced or the long drawn out process but I'm not wowed by this year's SDCC orderable items as I have been in the past because I think there is less fanfare.

I like it too, it's something different sideshow is trying. Who expected them to put up the giftcard lady (even in SDCC attire) giving out giftcards left and right, as if you were at comic con.

For those attending, there will still be a weeks worth of "suprises" since this thing is all month long.

As an attendee, the experience of seeing all that stuff in person for the first time and getting your orders in before everybody else is a really fun and somewhat privileged opportunity. This approach really lessens the impact as an attendee--it will still be fun to see all this stuff I've known about (and had on preorder) for weeks, but the big "kid on Christmas morning" sense of overwhelming revelation at the event itself will be missing this year.

I'm still excited to attend SDCC, but there's no reason to be in any kind of hurry to visit the Sideshow booth now. And the only Sideshow thing at the event that promises any intrigue now is their panel.

Since Sideshow posts the booth map at least a day or two before the con, attendees already know what is going to be there. We just know it slower now, but we get to order it as soon as we know. So there only should be a handful of items we can order preview night that haven't gone up on the site yet. So that is nice. Less things to order at the show and no need for PPOs either.

They post the booth map the night before the show, and I purposely never looked at it because I was busy packing, getting up early the next morning and traveling out to San Diego. Walking into the Sideshow booth was ALWAYS a treat filled with lots of neat surprises, ala Tom's "Christmas Morning" allegory. That is gone now.

Also, I actually enjoyed walking around the Sideshow booth with one of the sales people and leisurely placing my pre-orders and taking that yellow form back home with me. Oh well. I guess I'll just have more time for other booths at the show now.

Oh I looked at the map the night before. Can't help it. :lol So I knew what to expect. Which isn't any different than now. It was just ordering stuff and not having to worry about things incase it was something that would be a real pain.

Still gonna be the first booth I hit at the show.

I like the new format and it looks like it gives attendees another thing to whine about.

I really don't like the new format...

Well said Tom...Going to SS at con made it feel like Christmas for me as well...Seeing how cool, sexy, bad-ass some of their statues/PF/12" made me say I got to have it...Seeing last years Vader 1:1 was jaw-dropping, I ordered right on the spot...

I still hope that SSC will have some cool pre-order pieces, but now its I can wait to see it in person. Especially to make the final determination.
