I'm ashamed it took me a couple minutes to figure out the Wayne Szalinski reference, but I got it.

Here's more pics to feast upon. This was a really fun project. I painted one of these before they retooled the original sculpt, and then got sent two of the newer ones to paint just like it. These are the pics of 2 and 3.

Seconded :lecture got a Rainman Bill sculpt that could do with SS's magic touch

I have been letting people in little by little as I have similar projects coming up, but I'm still not ready to throw the doors open wide for new customers. My existing customers are very good at keeping me pretty busy. I think the doors might open a bit more in 2013 though.

Whoa. Love the character design, and your paint does it absolute justice. Finding myself wanting to see what you could do with a Big Daddy piece now...especially after seeing your oxidation effect on the SG piece.

What's Big Daddy?

That's awesome more than happy to wait :) :wave

Finishing up some Rogue PF head repaints. It's so weird to do a repaint on something I painted the prototype for. I may be wrong, but this may be the first time that's happened. The ones I'm painting now look even better than the proto.

Pics tomorrow.

Well here she is. A very frustrating piece to paint the eyes for (as I remember from when I painted the protos). It's hard to see it even with a trained eye, but when trying to paint the eyes to look in the same direction, it became clear that the sculpt of the eyes is a bit asymmetrical, especially on Classic Rogue with the headband.

This pic shows the correct angle for viewing, and the only real position the eyes can be painted in to effectively look in the same direction given the posture of the head.

I had thought when painting the protos, to have her looking down at her fist, but then the eyelids weren't closed enough to be looking down and her eyes would have looked alarmed. We painters have to be aware of things like that when painting eyes. The eyes communicate everything the character is thinking and expressing.

In this shot you can see that her right eye can tend to look a bit cross-eyed despite the fact that both irises appear to be looking in the same direction.

ClassicRogue01.jpg

Here's why. Look closely at the above picture. Her right eyelid is narrower toward the nose, giving the eye an asymmetrical shape compared to her differently shaped left eye. Plus the outer corner is elongated and slides backward more than the left as seen in the below pic.

ClassicRogueEyeSculpt.jpg

Because of the curve of the right eye, I couldn't paint the iris more to her right to avoid the cross-eyed look because the fading back curve would automatically make her look wall-eyed, which was what most of the production pieces looked like. Now you know why. You can also see more clearly in this shot that the irises are in fact looking in the same direction based on the curve of the eyeball sculpts.

As you can see here, if I leave the iris where it is, but correct the eyelide shape and bring in the corner of the eye, it looks just right.

But again, this is the right viewing angle.

This sculpt is a better. It does still have the unfortunate melting backward eye sculpt issues as the other portrait, creating the difficulty task of not allowing the eyes to end up looking wall-eyed, or over-compensating them to look cross-eyed. Fortunately, the eye shape is more symmetrical, so it's easier to lay the irises in effectively.

:clapWow now that makes me wish I wouldn't of given up on the marvel PF line that looks better than any of the pics even before she came out

Nice job on Rogue Nathan. I will have to watch out for the uneven eyes. I have one of these to paint coming up soon. It really makes it a challenge when the eyes are uneven. :gah:

I'm waiting for someone to call him Silver Surfer now :lol

Great work as always though. That Rouge is tough. Never seen Sideshow screw up on a piece so much as that one.

Actually that has already happened. There is a member on here that was selling something on ebay that Nathan did. I think it was one of his Myers head sculpts he did a while back. Anyway, he kept listing it saying it was done by the famous "Silver Surfer". I corrected him a few times and then gave up. :lol
