Well, that's a shame.

Proto paint by me.

I'm guessing factory or second proto paint by other.

Structurally the figure still look amazing though.

I'm guessing that must be a factory job... seems they are more inclined to show those now at cons and pre-orders than the really well painted prototypes.

Yeah, don't try harder ... just lower expectations. That's just a pity.

That said, their Han and Luke figures look fantastic. Wonder if they'll regret showing those protos when the production pieces start hitting?

I agree... but it must be said... there's a reason why Nathan's the best. Maybe the other painters can't achieve that level of paint detail without costs skyrocketing. Its not possible to expect a figure costing $180 or so (which is more or less the going rate for a headsculpt paint application) to have THAT level of detail and maintain costs down.

I can kinda see why they decided to do it this way though, as the way I see it - the proto painter is there to make the piece look as good as it can be - then send it to the factory to use as a guide to try and match it with the staff and tools available. The factory job will never look as good as the proto - because as Wake pointed out, they are at two completely different price ranges/skill levels.

That said, if all companies start doing it this way I'm gonna really miss being blown away at the proto painted previews :( (for me it's akin to watching a really good trailer, that's all polished and shows the best bits of the film)

ps wake - I'm still looking for the sloth mailing receipt - I have it around here somewhere

Oh, sure. Agree 100%. On that scale, they can't replicate the kind of skills Nathan brings to the party or spend that kind of time per head on a production line, but they're not that much cheaper than Hot Toys at this point. You'd think they'd be able to get closer to that quality level.

It just makes me a little sad that instead of pushing the envelope as far as they can to see how much they can achieve ... they often end up throwing the envelope away.

But if the Hoth Luke and Han are an indication of what's coming ... then I say Bravo, Sideshow. My fingers are firmly crossed.

Sorry there haven't been any updates lately. I've been busy on lots of repeat projects that don't need to be posted cause it's more of the same. Of course those whom the projects belong to will still get their pics.

I also didn't want to bother competing with SDCC coverage.

Walking Dead and others coming up next.

I know some of you have been hounding Igor about your projects. You haven't been forgotten. We will update you when we have updates to give you. I opened doors to the lab pretty wide after FAMcon, and now I'm trying very hard to catch up with it all, batching like projects and such.

Please bear with us. Your patience is appreciated. Thanks.:wink1:

Kato.E says he's not selling Indiana Jones jackets and shirts anymore. That leaves me a little stuck for improving my own Indy figure. Anybody got any leads on those? PM me.

Last I heard from Kato, he was definitely gonna make a second run. When did he tell you this?

It's possible that he just has to much on his plate and is just saying that for now.

Sad that that is their solution to lesser factory quality - don't show the prototypes anymore.

Seems like it... I wonder if the protos are now just used primarily to get approval from the licensors. I'm pretty sure I never saw your paint-up of the Padawan Kenobi.
