Nathan, I had a chance to check out your website SilentSurfersLab.com. I didn't realize being a huge Star Wars fan you did all those paint ups, they are brilliant. Your repertoire is so diverse Disney Chip and Dales all the way to disgusting bloody Halloween Michael Myers. Cool stuff there must be fun painting some of your childhood icons, I still can't believe how small this world is....:rotfl

Thanks, Anthony. Yes, it is pretty damn cool getting to paint my childhood icons for our older generation to appreciate in a new way. Jason PF, Boba Fett 12", and Vader 1/6 are among my faves that I got to work on.

When trying to find other people's build ups of this amazing Vampira model kit by Thomas "Artomic Creations" Kuntz, I found that there was a horrible shortage of good shots of finished kits, so here is my contribution to the world wide web. I've had this kit semi-assembled for over 20 years, dreading the clean up of some of the badly cast parts (the couch in particular), and not feeling confident in my ability to paint her the way she deserves. Such a great sculpt of such a great "person", I wanted so badly to finish it when I was ready and able to give it the best build up I possibly could. 20 years later, HERE SHE IS!

Missing details on the couch and full of air bubble holes from the casting process.

That's absolutely amazing how that turned out. Beautiful Work :clap

Nathan I've been considering starting up a collection of Mars Attacks model kits, but I want it to have that old 50's/60's kind of vintage model kit charm to it. Would you have any recomendations as to what kits to try and get and what to avoid?

Nathan how are the fishnets done? That's crazy cool looking. The face looks life like you can even see the skin pores. Good stuff here, now try it with crayons.:rotfl

Incredible, Nathan, and the WIP pics definitely enhance the appreciation of what you've accomplished there. Your paint compliments the aesthetic of the kit PERFECTLY, like you've unleashed every ounce of potential energy from the resin...if that makes sense. :lol

It sounds like you have a strong sense of what you want to see. I'd trust you to make the call on which models look like they fit the bill for you.

What are you talking about? That is crayons.

The fishnets were done with a tiny brush one tiny section of thread at a time. First, I tried just drybrushing over them, but the sculpt/casting wasn't pure enough to achieve a crisp effect, so I had to do it the hard way. Once the fishnets were all done, they looked too overpowering and thick for 1/6 scale and made the legs very dark overall. I ended up flesh basing over them again and hitting just the uppermost ridge of the net sculpt with the tiny brush. So not only did I dread painting the fishnets for 20 years, but once I finally got to them, I ended up painting them twice. ~sigh~

That was always my deepest hope for this kit, and the reason it took me so long to feel ready to attempt it. I'm glad you made those comments. That's confirmation that I accomplished my mission.
