I'm not a particularly huge fan of Tony C either. In addition to those you mentioned, I believe he also sculpted the Bowen Mary Jane, the DC Direct Power Girl Huntress dio, and a few others I wasn't too crazy about either. However, I thought his Bowen Falcon and Dark Horse Buck Rogers statue looked good.

If Bowen invested in better paint applications, like Moore and Sideshow, I think the company would enjoy even greater success. While both companies have released grails and duds, I feel a greater sense of confidence in Sideshow's choice of factories to apply the paint.

Every company has issues. The last 3 bowen pieces I purchased were perfect. Modern Cable, Maestro, and modern Nova, all arrived with no paint issues. I have a bunch of Bowen pieces and I'm happy to say I've only sent back one statue because of imperfections. I've received 2 SS pieces ( Stealth Iron Man, Hulk vs Surfer Dio) with paint problems. I've been pretty lucky with both companies.

To me, the bigger problem is weak sculpts. Nothing can save a statue that is a bad sculpt. I don't care how you repaint the SS Namor, Surfer, Bullseye, etc,,, They are still weak sculpts IMHO. That is what has me most upset with SS. I have those characters as Bowen pieces. I want them in my SS collection too. What makes matters worse is how long I've waited for more comiquettes to be made. SS has dragged their feet big time in releasing Marvels big boys as comiquettes. I don't even want to get into the issue of SS messing up the comiquettes scale.

Overall, I loved my last 2 SS pieces. The Mystique and Punisher comiquette were awesome. I'm just hoping the upcoming Spidey and Hulk comiquettes are phenomenal. If SS doesn't hit on their comiquettes it's not like they will make another one anytime soon. That's the toughest part swallow! If Bowen misses on a character with a bad sculpt, there is a good chance he will release another one somewhere down the line. What chance do I have to pick up another Surfer comiquette by SS?

Since were discussing it, I agree about weak SS products/sculpts. I have no problem cancelling them. I only have room to order and keep the best of the best, so any that don't make the grade get cut. It's not even a question anymore.

Cut this silver surfer, but keeping the scarlet witch.

At one point I ordered everything marvel. I still do, but only keep maybe a third or a half of what I originally order.

... and includes Death.

But that sculpt.....

Arrrrghhh..... tough choice. :panic:

I hope Sideshow will listen to our comments and tweak the Thanos face a bit. I don't really like that grin.. Too animated.. But I will still keep my exclusive, just hope they will make a real 1/4 Thanos piece later on :rock:duff

That is true, Mesa. I saw the pics of Silver Surfer Comiquette posted by the members and it doesn't look good at all! The seam at the neck is so big that you can see it from far away.

I've seen bad paint jobs butcher statues too. Unfortunately, I'm not a painter, nor am I inclined to pay hundreds of dollars to hire someone to do it either. In essence, the bad paint job kills it for me and I simply move on to the next piece.

The company featured most in my collection is Bowen. While I'm generally pleased with the BD pieces I own (there are numerous poor paint apps in the mix), I am also thankful (and disappointed) for the pieces I passed on due to poor paint apps too. It's at a point where I rarely preorder anymore because I feel a need to see the piece first before committing. It doesn't help that I could probably buy the piece on eBay for half retail soon after release. However, I do agree that BD generally has a good handle on its choice of poses. Although, I must admit, the repetitive poses haven't exactly been scoring big with me lately.

Perhaps I've just been lucky with Sideshow as I've been thoroughly pleased with every piece I've purchased. While not a huge collection, especially when compared to BD, it certainly has been enough to restore more confidence in the hobby for me.

just got shipping notice and looking forward to getting this guy in my collection

Yeah, I'd love to see more pics as well.

This statue or character does not interest me that much, but I dont think its as bad as everybody is making it out to be. Ive seen much worse (ie namor, bullseye)

Received mine today, I really like it. I understand where people are coming from with the seam on the head but with normal lighting in person it is not that noticable. That's why I like the painted silver too because small shadows really show off the detail where chrome without good lighting can sometimes make it look like a surfing trophy. If you display it a little below eye level you really don't see the seams at all even from the side.

Thanks for the pics / impressions. More pictures from different angles would be appreciated.

I am steering back towards getting this, though my need for the EX has diminished. Going to try and find the regular cheap somewhere.
