I've always just trusted anything Scorsese's made but the moment the "shining" music started my eyes widened even more. The film was a nice flash to the past ............. the way real suspenseful films were made. I've been a fan of Scorsese for over 20 years now .......... the man never disapoints. He's always a winner in which actors he chooses for his films too.

Sorry Josh, didn't mean to hijack your thread dude. :slap

:lol

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

The Durden paint up is beautiful Josh :bow Maybe painting the eyes looking in a direction might help the "surprised" look that some are mentioning?

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

Thanks guys for the comments and feedback. As always its appreciated. As for Sunohcs Pitt and this is no knock to his work but the eyes were sculpted a bit larger then most sculpts i have painted. When this happens you have to try and compensate for that space or it will look off, meaning way to much white showing. I have seen this with a few Sideshow sculpts as well. A good example of this look is the Bespin Luke sculpt from Sideshow. Very wide eyed. :horror You can shift the eyes to one side but there really isnt a way around it. The eye area is still to large and your very limited to how you can pose the figure. All in all Daniel did a great job on his version, could it be revised..sure but so could alot of other sculpts i have painted. :peace

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

just re read my post, it could seem that i was knocking your paint job Josh, that is not the case at all, i actually love the paint job! I just dont think the sculpt is complimenting it. Sorry if you read my post and you thought i wasnt impressed with your contribution as that wasnt the case.

All in all its a nice sculpt but your right the eyes are just to big making it impossible for you, again just my opinion but i am pleased i stuck with Rainmans

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

:lecture A paint job is only as good as the sculpt. It doesnt matter how good of a painter you are if the sculpt is off like you stated Manji they will not compliment each other.
Also love your sig too :)

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

Thanks for the constructive feedback on the sculpt, the surprised look on Brad is most likely due to the large eyes I sculpted (eeks sorry).
But I still think Josh did a fantastic job in making it look better than it could have been :)
I've often had the problem of sculpting the eyes too small on my sculpts and so I tried a little too hard on this one.
But hey with the sunglasses i have that are coming in, it might not be too bad afterall :)

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

Stunning paint work Josh and thanks for sharing Daniel.
Well, the eyes size were just fine to me (IMO) and in fact, for those who doesn't have top notch skill like myself could work on them easily.

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

Awesome work! I just looked over this whole thread and it was worth every hour(been looking at it from 11:00-1:32AM).

I would love to see you do a Naked Snake, with his pretty baby blues :D

Re: Small_Studios Figure Gallery

Josh, I am amazed at the varying shades of flesh tone you achieve. Simply astounding. I notice my own paints tend to have a generic Caucasian tone that generally comes out too pale when it dries yet yours come out perfect to the specific character. I am always impressed. If you don't mind, what kind of lighting do you use while painting? I was wondering if the fact I use fluorescent lighting could be affecting my color perception.

Thanks Anzik.:1-1: I find if you have several photos to go off of when you paint it really helps out to see where the tones very in each persons face. Honestly it really comes down to technique.

As for lighting i usually paint by candle light...........kidding of course. :wink1: I actually just use a drafting lamp. :peace
