I really like choe, and writing her out is kinda it for me. I dont think i will watch after this season. I was really excited about another season but now that almost everyone is gone its kinda lame. And if the budget is even tighter the show is gonna suffer. :( I dont see this next yr turning out great.

Well, they really tightened the budget going into this year, and creatively it's been the best year yet. I don't think I'll miss Chloe, hopefully they can bump Erica into being in every episode - it's frustrating that they'll go so long without her appearing.

I liked the special effects in this one, not bad for a TV show. I didn't like the abbreviated fight sequence with Doomsday although I will admit he came out better than I would have thought he would. The darker Clark is definitely an interesting move althouhg the deaths and disappearances are anti-climatic because knowing the Superman canon is knowing that it'll all be null and void and it looks like Superman writers are going back to the Zod well. Not sure if I'm willing to sit through a "Make everything right" Season though for 9....

It was a good finale, but it didn't feel quite as epic as seasons past. Even when this show has been at it's worst, it's always had killer season finales.

The Doomsday fight started off great, and then *poof* it's over. I assume budgetary constraints were the cause, but the end of the fight was handled very poorly, and the writers obviously knew that because they had to have Clark explain what happened to the audience.

I really hope Ollie is coming back next season and we see more of the JLA. Chloe and her new watchtower seemed to hint at just that.

Not thrilled with them going back to the well with Zod again, but this season was so good I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

I liked it, but had a big problem with one thing about it....killing off Jimmy Olson!? What the.....? So much for "canon" huh? I guess, okay I hope there's some way he'll come back next season. Because it looks like next season is the LAST season of Smallville. Superman is my favorite comic book hero. I've loved this show for the most part since the beginning. I got sick of the Lana Lang storyline, and I'm glad that's finally over. I really miss Lex Luthor not being around. Tess Mercer is a poor replacement for the loss of Lex. I saw in a recent interview that Michael Rosenbaum said he would be willing to come back next season. As long as he can wear a "baldcap". He said he's finally grown his hair back out now, and doesn't want to shave his head again.

I like the concept of a Kal-El concentrated on his "destiny" on earth. His purpose for being here. One more season to go. At first this was going to be the last season. It'll be interesting to see how they tie it all up in one season. I am still hoping for an appearance by "Superguy" as Jimmy called him....naw....Superman. Just one shot of him the outfit. Even if it's the final shot of the series.

If I remember correctly Lois's disappearance was because she touched the Legion ring so she is actually in the future. I guarantee we'll see that come into play to bring back Jimmy Olsen.

This was a let down of a season finale for me.

Well, "Jimmy" is dead.

As they said at the funeral, his name was Henry James Olson. Did everyone also miss the part at the funeral where Chloe gave Jimmy's little brother the camera? They never mention his name but he was wearing the bowtie like the real Jimmy from the comics and told him that maybe one day he would follow his brother's footsteps.

It just seems like they are trying to fix a few things with the continuity.

Man they killed Davis Bloom :banghead :banghead and they sent Doomsday away :banghead :banghead I heard the guy who played Doomsay (Sam Witwer) will be back as Zod next season.

First, Jimmy Olson in the comics is much younger then Clark Kent and Lois lane. Which is definately why they handed the camera to the little boy who we might assume has the middle name James also...or IS named James. Meaning in actual superman canon he WILL be "jimmy olson".

Second, I was very very confused at the end. Clark Dissapears when he walks through the door. Which I assume is just an artistic take on Clark Leaving. However, Chloe says "Diana, Oliver, and Bart all dissapeared...maybe its our job to bring them home". What did she mean? They were AT the funeral wernt they?

Third, did anyone else think it was kinda cool that Supermans battle with Doomsday lead to The Death of Superman in the comics, and in the show Clark said "Clark Kent is dead". Basically that was the show version of the death of superman. His resurecction will be coming back to humanity.

Did they explain it? I think it was intentionally ambiguous with Clark skimming over how he made it out. That is gonna be a plot device next season.

Probably although its stupid that his older brother Henry instead of going by Hank went by Jimmy even though his younger brother was named Jimmy. The should have just had it be Hank or Henry Olsen and then you go at this point "Hey that's Jimmy!"

They were all there although it gave a sign that this was a big enough of a blow to indicate they skipped town afterwards, broke up if you will. Chloe's statement was that they need to go track them all down and reunify the Justice League. Oliver should be easy to find but Dinah and Bart would all be more difficult. What about Cyborg or Aquaman?

I caught that although I think its an interesting moment to place into the earlier years a little too akin to Batman IMHO whereas Superman's driving force was always to be part of humanity not separated even if its a temporary thing it does cause differences in what we had established which no different than a lot of other things in the show.

They didn't explain it, Clark himself said I don't know and that he could save any others. Maybe Dinah, Oliver and Bart were all figments of Chloe's imagination and weren't really there.

I was a bit upset about killing Henry too - but obviously the kid will be the "canon" Jimmy, nice fix, but an obvious retcon.

As for how Clark got out of the geothermal thingie - obviously he instinctively flew out at superspeed. They're dancing around it, but he has to fly next season - he just has to. I really liked how it looked with Rok (Cosmic Boy) flying around Metropolis too - obviously another tease.

Bringing Zod back is ballsy, but if it is Witwer - that makes more sense than Lex being the vessel - at least Davis has Kryptonian DNA (actually Zod's DNA, being his son and all). So that's kind of a natural progression. Maybe Zod's plan all along was for Kal-el to kill Doomsday/Davis thus making it possible for Zod to come back.

So is Lois in a future with a Superman? Or one where Clark died? Rok wanted Clark to send Doomsday to them - so did the ring take Lois to the Legion era? Is she going to come back with powers?

Who knows with this writing set but I got the impression that Lois went the future where the Legion was waiting for Clark to fight Doomsday. The strange thing is if she went there, would they tell her about Clark? Is this another thing she'd have to find out and then forget?

Not an explanation of how Clark made it out, but just that little recap of what exactly was going on in that far off shot of Clark, Doomsday and the explosion. I mean, I knew what was goin on, but really that scene was handled poorly (again probably for budgetary reasons).

We don't need an expalnation of how Clark got out. He stuffed Doomsday underground and supersped out. The explosion certainly wouldn't have killed him and the audience knows that which makes his little explantion at the end all the more apparent that the wirters thought the audience needed reminding that the explosion was Clark trapping Doomsday underground, because we don't get to see any of that.

Okay, I get that the little brother of Henry James Olson, is actually THE Jimmy Olson of the Superman story canon. Now I breathe a sigh of relief. But I will miss Sean/Aaron Ashmore as "Jimmy" NOT being there anymore. I liked him also as Bobby Drake aka "Iceman" in X-Men 2 and 3. I thought he did a good job.

Yeah, Clark MUST start flying. We've waited eight seasons now for it. Other than the little "tease" we got when he was the Kal-El he didn't like a few seasons ago flying around for a little bit. It's time for him to finally become Superman. He questioned being able to assume two separate identities, but that is was he HAS to do now. As Clark Kent, and as Superman. Since he made the bold statement to put his feelings aside and become the hero he was destined to become.

It'll be interesting to see Sam Witwer come back as Zod next season. I think he's a great actor too. Did any of you play Star Wars: The Force Unleashed? I liked him as Darth Vader's secret apprentice in that game. Maybe Lois is in the future with the Legion. I hope so. That's a much safer place for her that any other unknown place that the ring could have transported her to. Things with Lois and Clark have to heat up this upcoming last season too. Set a foundation for their relationship in some way in the last season. I'd love to see the Justice League reunited. All of them this time. I missed NOT seeing Aquaman and Cyborg in the finale'. Where were they? Budgetary cuts ended up cutting them out too? Oh well.

I now take back my previous post about next season :lol Im now very excited about next season, tho bumbed about jimmy i love how they ended this season. With Clark departing from him timidity to make hard dicsions and even seperating himself from his relationships. seeing him take this leap into a maturing role is refreshing. i was tiring of the same stuff over and over from Clark-lets hope he gets a new jacket next season as well. :D

I'm thinking that the Legion will erase her memory and send her back....which I HATE, but we all know it's going to happen

Clark has tried to put aside his powers and be normal, so putting aside his humanity is another step he has to take before he can embrace the duality that he will become. I can see him saving people 24/7 and getting burned out pretty quickly. Having to make a decision that logic and reason can't help him with and having to just go with his heart. Could be a very interesting season.

There is so much richness in the Superman/Clark/Kal-El character that hasn't necessarily been explored at length in the comic books. It's interesting to see them take this on.

I agree. And Chloe was getting married...literally had part of the wedding and had never met little Jimmy? She says "you must be Jimmy's little brother" as though she had never met him...

Originally what I had thought...but...more on this at the end :D

That is true, however, sometimes separating yourself from something shows you how much you actually need and want it. In other words, maybe separating himself will lead into the actual split between Clark Kent and Superman that we were teased with in this season. Clark finally understanding that both sides are essential to his drive to be the hero.

They didn't explain it, Clark himself said I don't know and that he could save any others. Maybe Dinah, Oliver and Bart were all figments of Chloe's imagination and weren't really there.

So this is what I was thinking. Was Clark even a figment of Chloe's imagination also? The way he disappeared exiting the watch tower..maybe it wasn't just artsy cinematography but a sign that she had imagined him being there. And her reaction when he disappeared a response to the realization that he was gone too. Remember she said "I keep telling myself maybe I haven't..." and Clark says "Lost everyone". Also, Clark never said anything more then Chloe already knew. Never offered any new bits of information. Also, in the cemetery Chloe never actually acknowledged any of the supers. Something is certainly not as it seems.

Yeah, Clark's "new jacket"...will be...should be...MUST BE...a RED CAPE! :D
