Who has the better voice actor?

He does it in the comics, and he's done it in the best incarnation of Batman outside comics, the Arkham franchise, so it's good enough for Bale.

The sonar?

Between that an the autopilot Bale has objectively shown more intelligence than any previous live-action Batmen.

Sure his voice is stupid, his fighting worse, the sequels are questionable, but he wasn't the bad detective memes make out to be around here.

Oh yeah, he did modify the Sonar, too.

Well, I never said that Batman doesn't beat people up. But, in comparison, have you ever heard Conroy Batman ask the same question ad-nauseam to get results? :impatient: There was no sleuthing in the Nolan movies, and in the only two interrogation scenes with Joker and Bane, Batman only use his goofy voice and fisty-cuffs. The great irony was, those scenes showed that he wasn't any different from the hockey pad cosplayers from TDK.

I deeply respect the Burton movies for their style and atmosphere, that capture Gotham and Batman perfectly. I don't consider Keaton's Batman as being the pinnacle of performance, either. But, I think the costume and just the tone and inflections of his voice were the best we've seen so far in live action.

He also created that Nuclear reactor turned nuclear bomb.

Didn't Wayne Enterprises do that for a sustainable energy business investment? It's been a long time since I saw TDKR, but I thought that Baleman was basically wasting away in isolation prior to the events of the movie... out of sadness for not saving that butterface chick.

He retired from being Batman because he wasn't needed anymore. The Dent Act cleaned Gotham up, Bruce created the reactor to help Gotham but once he realized it was a risk since it could be used as a weapon he shelved it.

He never retired because of Rachel's death, even in TDK, after she died he went straight back to business, he retired because there was pretty much nothing left for him to do as Batman or Bruce Wayne. He became a recluse because of that, not Rachel.

By the way I voted Conroy, to me it's no contest. Conroy has something Hayter never did, and that's consistency. Hayter was at his best in MGS 1. MGS2 was the real beginning of his unnatural delivery. I liked it though, but each game in the series he got progressively worse, to the point where fans of the series are already split on who they prefer more, Hayter or Kief. I also don't like that Hayter has been using his Snake voice for pretty much every other character he's been voicing lately, it really takes away from the Snakes iconic voice from the the games he did work on.

There's been tons of other people that have voice Batman, but Conroy has been the best, and while I was worried about some of the stuff I heard from him in Arkham Knight, I thought he gave his best performance in the series.

On a side note, did anyone else think the guy voicing Gordon in AK did a horrible job?

Conroys Batman certainly does more sleuthing which is why I ranked him 1 but it's kind of unfair given he had multiple episodes and Bale only had three movies. Keatons Batman does t do anything detective like that comes to mind.

And yes he did create it he just couldnt do anything with it because he didn't trust people wouldn't exploit it like Bane did.

He interrogated Flass the same way and got results, he got that Chinese dude.

You know in the Arkham games you literally beat a bunch of people and just ask the last dude where the Riddler trophy is :lol

No sleuthing say you? What about the time when he literally reconstructed a bullet using ballistic techniques? That's more detective work than what Keaton ever did :lol

Yeah, the burton movies totally nailed the aesthetic of gotham and have gorgeous style, but Keaton Batman only fits cause of the gorgeous costume imo.

I don't consider neither Keaton nor Bale ideal Batmen, far from it, I think Batfleck has a really easy chance to be the next best Batman.

I don't think he could've continued being Batman, regardless, from all of those physical injuries he sustained in TDK. But, I really thought it was Rachel's death that ultimately put "Bruce Wayne" into isolation. No one had seen him in years; he was basically the poster boy for depression, at the butt of everyone's jokes, and he didn't even care.

Don't EVER compare Conroy Batman to Bale :lol. Yeah, he beats up Riddler goons, too. Batman beats up a lot of people, there's no question about it. But, there was so much detective work in the games that had you solving murder mysteries and crime scenes.

For the interrogation scenes, Nolan Batman basically had to rely on fisty-cuffs, his goofy voice, and repeating the same questions all the time. I think those scenes could've been handled much better. But, Christian Bale had to work with the material he was given. That ballistic scene was from Begins, right? I would've loved to see more of that being implemented in the movies. But, like I said... I think everything eventually just got lost in Nolan's grandiose vision for Batman.

I hesitate to even give them that. All those movies look like is just another Burton movie. Beetlejuice, Edward Scissor hands and even A Nightmare Before Christmas all could have taken place in the same city. Burton tried to do what the animated series did better. My favorite live action Gotham goes to Batman Begins. You don't get scenes like this in anything other than the books.

Here's the thing about Hayter. If I was in a crowded room. Say Comic Con and Hayter did his Snake voice I would know it from a mile away. I might not even notice Conroy because in the end its really not that original.

Hayter actually did a recent interview with YongYea, and he showed that he was very capable of doing his MGS 1 Snake voice. He sounded just as he did back in 1998. He said it was more of an artistic decision to make the voice more gravely over time, as the character become older and more tired.

As for Big Boss, I think his conversation at the end of the game with Kaz should've been done over in another cut. I thought the Outer Heaven speech had a solid delivery though.

He can do it, but I don't know if he can sustain using that voice multiple hours a day. It just makes no sense for him to use that voice in the motion comics, and the canceled Metal Gear remake. I know he said in an interview a while back that doing the MGS1 voice puts a lot of strain on his vocal cords.

That vid you posted did sound decent though. The voice is still way too raspy but his delivery is at least more natural.

He was still great in that game, but you'd be lying if you said he actual sounded as natural as he did in MGS1.

I think he did a great job in every game though except for PW, I almost played that game on mute :lol

Well you need to consider accelerated aging, and he smokes like a chimney. I know he sounds different in MGS2, but not at any point did I find it bad or distracting. I like that portrayal a lot since he's not so young sounding.

I love David Hayter. He's one of the few actors that have just a much passion for his characters as Snake's fanboys, but I don't think he's in the same league as Kevin Conroy as an actor. He's not in the same league as anyone in those Bruce Timm cartoons. Shows like Batman TAS were huge outliers in the voice acting department where the director's really took the voice acting seriously on par with the likes of Disney and the Simpsons. I loved David Hayter's performance as a kid, but it's hard for me to take it seriously as I got older (Unfortunately, I just recently had the same experience with the 90s X-Men cartoon I adored as kid.). I still like it, but it's in the category of "it's great for a video game." I remember when folks were praising Silent Hill 2's acting at the time, but if you listen back, it's pretty underwhelming. Ever since the late 2000's studios have started to invest more effort with the performances, and we no longer have to have the "good for a video game caveat."

I love the Metal Gear Solid franchise so much, but nothing about Hayter compares to this:

Edit: I was thinking of another speech in my last comment.

Yea, I never said he did a bad job, I enjoyed his performances but I do think MGS 2 and 3 was the beginning of him hamming it up a bit. By the time he got to PW Snake just didn't even sound like a human being anymore.

Conroy on the other hand has been consistent for years.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree completely there. No one has done Batmans voice like Conroy before or since and believe me many have tried. His Batmans tone is very original and so far hasn't been duplicated.

It's a good voice for sure but it's just not that different sounding. David Hatters is wholly original.

What was he supposed to sound like as he got older? You always say how bad he's in PW and he sounds like a robot... and I'll agree with that, only when you're picking your suit for the mission... since for whatever reason they added some underlining sound effect in his voice for some reason. I only hear it there.
