I know, and I knew it would be hard for people to look at ESB with critical eyes, but come on, as good as it was, it was heavily affected by decisions from outside of George's head -- the casting of Lando, the idea for little green toad Yoda (a decision for toys -- yes it was) and many others. It all worked of course... which is my point. Star Wars ceased to be an auteur's vision on that film, and became a 'good film made by committee'. The 'committee' in this case was a lot of great minds fortunately. That doesn't happen often but it gave us a great movie. Star Wars can be made by committee and be good. That's what I was proposing above that would make SNIKT unhappy.
However, 'Jedi' is an example of decisions being made for 'bad outside reasons' -- like the primary drive to create more toys -- Ewoks being the main offender, and Lucas' interviews where he said he wanted the Ewok to replace the Teddy bear. That's a strange decision or goal to have for the movie, wouldn't you say?
