Re: Han Solo (May 25th, 2018)

Half-human, half-animal eh?

Sounds like that would have been right up Ron Howard's alley.

And Williams role was a cgi creature but now Bettany is playing the character with no motion capture.

Oh well Williams implied that reshoots only came up after Howard was hired.

Re: Han Solo (May 25th, 2018)

Howard has a lot more to fix from those two quack "auteurs" than Disney originally let on.

Lego Batman. Right.

Life will suck for SNIKT if the single auteur TLJ sucks, and the two movie disasters where corporate hands were brought in to "fix" everything end up being the better movies (RO and this Han Solo).

That said, in truth, I think Star Wars ceased being an 'auteur's art' a long, long time ago. Like pretty much after the first one. ESB was great but Star Wars was already changing even by then -- influenced by SJW casting demands and driven by toy sales...

Star Wars can never be original again until the day its allowed to be re-envisioned by an actual artist with an entirely new vision.

Yep Kirshner was a hired gun who didn't have final cut just like Edwards.

But because of Bettany's late arrival they're scrapping the idea of having him be an alien? If so then that's totally lame. They really must be stuck on that May release date.

C'mon ESB is universally rated higher than SW.

I know, and I knew it would be hard for people to look at ESB with critical eyes, but come on, as good as it was, it was heavily affected by decisions from outside of George's head -- the casting of Lando, the idea for little green toad Yoda (a decision for toys -- yes it was) and many others. It all worked of course... which is my point. Star Wars ceased to be an auteur's vision on that film, and became a 'good film made by committee'. The 'committee' in this case was a lot of great minds fortunately. That doesn't happen often but it gave us a great movie. Star Wars can be made by committee and be good. That's what I was proposing above that would make SNIKT unhappy.

However, 'Jedi' is an example of decisions being made for 'bad outside reasons' -- like the primary drive to create more toys -- Ewoks being the main offender, and Lucas' interviews where he said he wanted the Ewok to replace the Teddy bear. That's a strange decision or goal to have for the movie, wouldn't you say?

I think he's still an alien just no longer a full motion capture one.

So more Hammerhead and less Maz.

But seriously, an auteur can give us A New Hope and then turnaround and give us Howard the Duck... just as bad as a committee that can give us a good movie or a piece of repetitive crap. It's just easier to admire the single auteur. But they all fade, no matter who.

Except George Miller. :)
