Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Doesn’t seem too bad at all! Enjoy!

I am enjoying it, and looking forward to the Blu-ray release to see it in all its splendour!

It's a good old-fashioned Star Wars adventure. More fun than Rogue One, but that film had a darker purpose.

Less bogged down with politics than the Prequels and Sequels, apart from L3's constant struggle for equal rights. Yet that's something that's been waiting to be addressed since 1977.

Not forgetting that 1980 gave us IG-88, an independent droid bounty hunter.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Uncle Ethan says Han Solo is straight up beta in this film. He gets kicked around by dominant women, who do things he was meant to do, where he's like "Aww shucks. Thanks". They constantly take his gun away from him, which is like a symbol for his *****. And Han pretty much can't whipe his own *** without them.

He also says Lando's love interest, R2-ME2, is more annoying than Rose Tico.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Wow... L3... what a waste. Most lame droid ever.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Beckett has a great line in the film:

"Why do you have to be so negative?"

I don't think that was there by accident.

After the OT Rogue One and Solo are my favourites in the series. Nostalgically they feel closer to the style of the OT and old expanded universe. Solo is a story that Brian Daley could have told. It's a tale of smugglers, pirates, crime lords and backstabbers. Rather than politics (Jedi or otherwise).

Han a beta?

That's like saying Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name is a beta because he gets the crap kicked out of him, before finally exacting his bloody revenge.

Han wins out in the end as a scoundrel - he shoots first, which is a good policy. And then he does the right thing. He's still young. He hasn't become a cynic yet, though he's learning to distrust. There's still a lot of adventures to come between now and the moment he meets Luke in the Mos Eisley cantina.

Ethan says Han is just bewildered by everything going on around him. The women hold his hand throughout. Hopefully, this is the last of the SJWars.

Doesn't sound like the film I just watched.

The only overt element of SJW was droid rights. It had its place, but was played too loudly and often. Though it doesn't last long.

I'd rate the film 8/10.

Dropping one point for the droid, and another for the
imperial thinking up 'Solo' for Han's surname. Because that erases the Solo family from the canon.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I really enjoyed the movie and I think most will enjoy it as well, not including those who go in with a chip on their shoulder wanting to dislike it. I’m not sure anything could be produced to sate their highly critical and delicate sensibilities.

Why must you always post others reviews and thoughts? Why not go see for yourself and make up your own mind?

Cause Im boycotting. End result: Boba Fett movie announced on the same day as Solo release.

Cause Im boycotting.

As someone who grew up with the OT, and who had high hopes for the prequels only to be sorely let down, Solo is a breath of fresh air.

I liked RO, but it was a mission focused movie with an preset ending. I already like Solo more because it was an adventure of the kind told in the EU novels.

It's only taken 35 years to get the Star Wars movie I was waiting for. :lol

It was called "The Empire Strikes Back."

I'm skeptical. A lot people (including myself) didn't notice this tacky feminist message in the TFA until they watched it at home.

I still don't see anything wrong with it.

It's her world.

He's a toilet cleaner on the run.

Look again. Finn asks Rey: "Are you alright?" Rey is like "of course I'm alright. I'm a strong and independent woman!" Its so obvious man.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Got roped into seeing it last night with my bestie.

10PM showing. 400 seat theater and there was maybe 15 in there including us. :lol

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there is nothing worth remembering about it. If it didn't have Star Wars on it, no one would give a hoot about it.

Guy playing Han had zero Ford in him. None. There were no Ford characteristics. I don't even remember if anyone got The Finger. The guy was channeling Dennis Quaid though. Spot on there. Han no found.

The Solo name. Really? A random desk clerk came up with it?

Loved Chewy though as usual. You can't ever not like him. And I pat myself on the back for getting a arm ripped from the sockets scene prediction correct.

Harrelson played the best human character.

I liked L3.

Dragon Queen was ok. I liked that she turns out to be eeeevil at the end.

Vision looked dumb.

Glover was hugely overrated. I mean he was closer to the character than the lead actor in this movie, but I saw nothing special about his portrayal of Lando. :dunno

Darth Maul. I hated seeing Darth Maul in this. It robs Kenobi of his moment. Fauk Maul. And Fauk anymore Star Wars movies.

Lucky I used Movie Pass on this bologna sandwich.

So much for spoilers... :lol

I haven't seen this yet, and not sure when I will. But I don't get all the complaints on seeing Maul. It perfectly makes sense for those who watched The Clone Wars & Rebels. I think it's a pretty cool cameo. I don't think it robs Kenobi of his moment in EPI at all. And Kenobi has an even way better moment in Rebels when Maul confronts him on Tatooine. One of the best scenes of all the animated episodes through both shows.

For those who don't want to have bits of the animated series in the movies, you have to remember those are canon. Even when Lucas was still in charge. Disney is a business. This is a great way to get the casual fans into wanting more, so then they will go watch the animated shows. There are some great characters introduced in TCW and Rebels. In RO we had Saw Gerrera and got to hear Hera's name and a quick glimpse of Chopper.

Captain Rex is now one of the most popular characters in Star Wars due to TCW. Grand Admiral Thrawn was one of the best parts of Rebels. Anakin became a great character because of TCW, and Kenobi became an even stronger character as well. And of course Ahsoka became another strong character as the seasons went on and she aged and became more experienced.

Anyone who is truly a SW fan needs to watch The Clone Wars. You don't need to watch every episode over the 6 seasons, but there were some amazing episodes. Still far better than Rebels was. Rebels got better as the seasons progressed. I didn't like it at 1st as I felt it was very kiddy, but it did get darker and more serious in tone.

I am not sure what is "tacky" about this or offensive... The difference is between a hand taken and a hand offered. If Finn had offered his hand and she rebuked him and gave him a speech about how insulted she is as a woman at the implication she needs help it would be one thing. But that is not what happened, Finn kept taking her hand and dragging her around assumptively. The message is universal, offer a hand, don't take. It goes both ways.
