Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Do you watch these vids

i only watch grace. shes the only virtual friend i need

(I Do only stick to movie review videos, those are informative at least. there is nothing to gain from watching this chick....I just know millions of people follow her)

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

That's true. Two-Tubes raises the films he's in to near OT level. Some would say RO is superior to ROTJ. It's a hard call. But in most instances, I would much rather sit thru RO than ROTJ anymore. But ROTJ has so many classic characters and situations -- even if they are delivered with TV-level direction.

SW/ESB - ranking depends on which I've seen most recently - but I usually prefer SW because it was the first

ROTJ/RO - I will tussle with this for eternity

Solo/ROTS

TPM/TFA - Mother and I are still collating

AOTC - at least it ranks

No, I'm not forgetting one, that is all that is on my Star Wars scale.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

I can explain it. I thought long about this. Ive read some stuff,

Those hour long videogame videos can serve as a virtual friend. In a way they make you feel like if u were playing the game at home with a friend.
Hour long Podcast vids work the same way, they make your mind like u are in the compaby of a friend.

I first discovered this when.people use those hours long videos on trips or in airplanes or stuff like that.
And i notice my little cousin playing those vids when hes bored because he never hangs out with any friends. Some people really do watch these like if watching a friend.
Specially today that so many people are so disconnected.

Other kids watch these game vids because they are Too lazy to play the game so they rather watch the video.
The games still look cool and the story is good so they rather have someone do the work for them .
I have to admit i did this twice. I did it with the ghostbusters game.

And the last reason is because some kids cant afford games so they watch it free

damn.....this is a great post....

My kids have friends but they dont hang with them like I used to at their age....

I know they have favorite video bloggers...and they know everything about them....they get excited when one if the comments to them...

great explanation.......Never would have thought of that...Crows wins the internet today.

I kinda like this one Bob. Leave it.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

At some point I'll do a proper ranking. Disney's one-offs are screwing up what used to be an easy pattern for me.

Did DiFabio like Solo...?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Do you know if it's art? Do you like it?

YES. The first two are the only ones that aren't crap.

There's nothing more visceral than Aunt Beru and Uncle Owen's smoking skeleton husks or Luke's decapitated head in the Vader mask.

Also, why is C-3PO whipping it out to take a leak on the Leia hologram? And who is that in your avatar? Temple ceremony Luke? Han? An X-Men?

Did DiFabio like Solo...?

No he hasn't seen it and probably won't. Same with Episode 9.

He'll probably see the Obi-Wan and Boba Fet movies if they get made.

I don't know what age group you fit in but the bolded section is exactly why I like it when some actual discussion happens - I sometimes forget the original impact of some of those moments. It was shocking and terrible and grossly fascinating once.

My sig is an Iphone photo of Super Star Wars' PS4 port.

My avatar is young Han Solo ejecting from his something-somthing 68 speeder on the instruction sheet for the Hasbro toy. I found it amusing in an IKEA kinda way.

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

But leave before the third act finishes.

How will I know when to leave? Is there a visual cue I should look for to let me know when to get up and head for the exit sign?

Also, can I ask for my money back?

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

Now the real mystery now is to unravel why the goose with the golden eggs has left the Disney SW nest and it's not an easy or obvious explanation(TLJ is part of the issue but far from the main reason)

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (May 25th, 2018)

:lol

Yoda doesn't know DiFabio.

Yoda spent a summer on DiFabio Island and came back as the tree-burning rager that he was in TLJ.

DiFabio is the smoke monster on LOST. He doesn't show up much, but it's usually a good one when he does.

It all makes sense. U dont spend one entire hour listening to someone and looking at their face without developing a connection.
The fact that these youtubers speak directly into the camera and they look directly into your eyes makes the connection stronger in the viewer.

Also the fact that they speak about subjects you are interested in makes it more intimate.

U can be alone in the north pole but if you have access to youtube then you never need to feel lonely. You can get that artificial human connection

I'm older than crows and younger than Wor.

Yeah, exactly. I like that stuff. The first two movies are the only ones that have little moments where I recall the time I first experienced them and how they stuck with me after all these years.

Return of the Jedi and Revenge of the Sith have a few things like this (the fat keeper crying after Luke kills the rancor with that eerie music, Anakin getting chopped up and chargrilled after envisioning it in my head for years), but it's just not the same.

Neat. I thought it was a Kenner prototype mock up or something.

Yeah, you really have to wonder about the Fett and Obi-Wan movies now - along with the Rian trilogy. Those conversations and decisions took place in an era when a Star Wars film - any SW film - easily and always made a billion +. If it had the SW logo on it, you were guaranteed.

That era is over, and surely Disney is now understanding that SW is not Marvel in any way.

TFA was the great return of SW, and the continuation of the OT with OT heroes, and was a high-water mark. TLJ became mired in toxic controversy and earned less than expected despite being the bigscreen return of Luke Skywalker. It's got 18 months, but you really have wonder how Ep IX is going to fare - no OT heroes at all, following the divisiveness of TLJ, and with SW seeming oversaturated and somehow tired.

RO was smart - doing new movies set inside the OT (the BTTF2 idea) is the template Disney should follow. Doing a RO for ESB and ROTJ is the best path forward for SW.
