I finally saw this too. Ill admit it, took me about 15 minutes to get past fake solo, and his "other girlfriend" (eg not leia) but after that I let myself enjoy the ride. AND...What a fun star wars ride it was, much like rogue 1 (on first view), as well as TFA. The poor reception to solo in the box office really underscores the damage TLJ has done to the brand. People can say what they want about the prequel trilogy, but they never pulled in this little in the box office, nor did they impact other movies like TLJ has. I never thought we would see another movie kill a sequel or related movie as bad as BvS did to justice league. Solo was ****ing masacured by the TLJ effect, which is sad because it was much better star wars movie than TLJ. Honestly, the movie really surprised me, once you get past the imposter Solo effect its actually a really good flick. The biggest issue with the movie is the villain, there wasn't really a villain at all. Once pirate chick took off her mask and revealed her full intentions a lot of the excitement (at least for me) died. We were left with Vision as the main villain, and Paul B does not play a believable villain at all. If they wanted a good villain they should have used maul. Speaking of Maul, I feel he was only there as a major setup for another movie that we will probably never get to see after the poor box office... which sucks.. I actually wouldn't mind seeing what happens after Q gets to maul. One thing I don't get, why do they cast all female leads that look like each other?? Jyn, Q, and Rey all sort of look like they could be from the same family, esp Jyn and Q.
A couple other random observations.
1) Desaturated color- Movie reminded me of a zack Snyder dceu flick, all colors were muted and dull
2) Dark picture- Maybe the desaturated color pallet played a role in this but the movie was dark. I am guessing this was intentional in order to minimize the fake solo effect. If the picture is darker the viewer focuses less on the fact that he isn't Harrison Ford.
