Finally saw this. I thought it was ok. It was entertaining and it was nice to see and hear references from the OT but it had a lot of slow points where I was bored of watching it. The ending was slow going too I thought. Glover steals the show and acts more like Lando than Alden did as Han, by far.

L3’s Kessel scenes are pretty damn spectacular.

“LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME EVERYONE I HAVE A PURPOSE I HAVE A PURPOSE I’M SO HAPPY I CAME HERE ON THIS MISSION AFTERALL!!!”

BLAM!!!

2nd best use of a gonk droid ever too lol

Hell yes Solo absolutely features the best Gonk droids in the Saga, lol. And I like the little R2 unit that kicks off the uprising even more than BB-8, lol.

L3
Rio
Beckett
Val

This movie is actually full of tragic deaths but the Han and Chewie dynamic always keep it feeling like a light and fun movie. Pretty awesome balance there.

K2SO bit the dust

L3 bit the dust at least her vocal side did.

Pretty narly that’s she’s stuck in the Falcon’s database there’s a horror movie somewhere in that lol

Yep, lol.

I expected to feel this way, but weirdly wen the other way. Glover was good indeed, but he did pretty much just mimic Billy. I kind of liked that Alden played Han differently to what we'd seen of him before. It made sense given that he was a fair bit younger in this movie. I liked both roles very much however, I really need to watch this for a second time already.

I would definitely love to see a sequel to this. I'm sure they had a trilogy in mind when they started it, but I would be happy with at least one more movie just to see more of these characters and for them to try and tie things up a bit.

I hate to say this in front of Khev, but I really enjoyed this MUCH more than RO. The characters in Solo, beyond Han, Chewie and Lando, were so richly drawn and I felt a connection with all of them. And I really felt it when a character would bite it, which is more than I can say for RO. For me, that's really the most important thing. Even the "heist" stuff felt more interesting and clever.

I have no problem with the movie being "small", telling a more personal story and not really part of the huge galactic war. I loved it. I don't know where to put it in my rankings, but definitely alongside the new sequels. So something like:

ESB
ANH
FA
TLJ
Solo (somewhere alongside TLJ--haven't quite decided if I like it better or not)
ROTJ

And honestly, objectively speaking, I *could* place ANH much lower on that list! But nostalgia keeps it up there every time!

Solo better than RO???? That's really pushing it. :lol For me RO is the only thing Disney has gotten right so far. And I proudly add it to the OT as my fav SW films.

I'm curious to see what happens the 2nd time I watch Solo. Will I like it a little more, like it a little less, or be indifferent. I have a feeling my opinion won't change. It's ok. Nothing really good or bad (except L3). Unlike another SW ST movie. A second viewing for me would be more akin to torture... :wink1:

Finally saw it too...more or less pleasantly surprised. Thought this would totally suck. It was OK - better than I thought it would be. Liked Alden more than I thought I would - I dunno if I saw him as Han, exactly, but he was enjoyable. Cast good, some IMO really imaginative stuff and other pushing the SW connection too hard (like those dice and wow, there's a robot that looks like R2 etc....). Some interesting takes on Keira (choosing ambition) and Beckett; and neither are all-good or all-bad.

Who doesn't love SW but I don't know SW canon and all that so don't know if this film violates canon *shrug*. Not without flaws like some sketchy CGI but plenty of good too. Really enjoyed Bettany being pyschotic:devil; liked the bleak settings and bleak look of the Marauders.

Yeah, I'm afraid it's not even close for me. I was initially dazzled by it when I first saw it in the theater. I rated it pretty high after that first viewing, like an 8 or 9. But watching it again a couple of times, it was a chore sitting through it. I literally fell asleep twice both times I tried to watch it at home on Netflix! I like the space battle over Scarif, and the Vader part, but everything else is just not interesting to me. Even the ground attack on Scarif and stealing the plans just didn't feel exciting to me. There is pretty much zero emotional investment in any of the characters for me, and without that I just can't get into a movie. It's the only SW movie I don't own on video either!

So yep, I'll take Solo any time over RO.

I finally saw this too. Ill admit it, took me about 15 minutes to get past fake solo, and his "other girlfriend" (eg not leia) but after that I let myself enjoy the ride. AND...What a fun star wars ride it was, much like rogue 1 (on first view), as well as TFA. The poor reception to solo in the box office really underscores the damage TLJ has done to the brand. People can say what they want about the prequel trilogy, but they never pulled in this little in the box office, nor did they impact other movies like TLJ has. I never thought we would see another movie kill a sequel or related movie as bad as BvS did to justice league. Solo was ****ing masacured by the TLJ effect, which is sad because it was much better star wars movie than TLJ. Honestly, the movie really surprised me, once you get past the imposter Solo effect its actually a really good flick. The biggest issue with the movie is the villain, there wasn't really a villain at all. Once pirate chick took off her mask and revealed her full intentions a lot of the excitement (at least for me) died. We were left with Vision as the main villain, and Paul B does not play a believable villain at all. If they wanted a good villain they should have used maul. Speaking of Maul, I feel he was only there as a major setup for another movie that we will probably never get to see after the poor box office... which sucks.. I actually wouldn't mind seeing what happens after Q gets to maul. One thing I don't get, why do they cast all female leads that look like each other?? Jyn, Q, and Rey all sort of look like they could be from the same family, esp Jyn and Q.

A couple other random observations.

1) Desaturated color- Movie reminded me of a zack Snyder dceu flick, all colors were muted and dull
2) Dark picture- Maybe the desaturated color pallet played a role in this but the movie was dark. I am guessing this was intentional in order to minimize the fake solo effect. If the picture is darker the viewer focuses less on the fact that he isn't Harrison Ford.

You sound open enough to the movie. I think if you give it another watch fake Solo will persuade you that he can be a young Han.

My Wife finally watched this, and given the look on her face, the sporadic laughter, and the fact that she actually talked about it afterwards, I'm guessing she enjoyed this more than any SW movie in years.

Being a huge GOT fan, it didn't hurt to have Q'ira (sp?) in the movie.
