Their inability or unwillingness to properly light the actors in the movie still pisses me off, to be honest. I was hoping it would be less noticeable on video. Were they trying to hide the faces?

Hey, I've loved SW ever since I saw it in 77 when I was 5. But even I can see, especially at my age now, that it's not a perfect movie. Not that it's anything terrible or bad per se or is any less enjoyable, just that there are some not so great aspects of the movie that are just a product of the time.

I just watched it again last night on Blu Ray and I didn't really find that at all. Sure the cinematography is moody and atmospheric (which I think is great), but I never wasn't able to see what was happening.

How old was Jyn supposed to be in RO?

Should’ve shown either her, Saw or Cassian in Solo.

Connected two tubes to Saw.

Felicity and Ford were about the same age when they appeared in RO and ANH (33 and 35 respectively) so I assume that their characters would be about the same age as well. So while Han was doing the Kessel Run a 20-something Jyn would have been off fighting with Saw.

That's actually cool that they showed Two Tubes with Enfys Nest because that would explain why he didn't recognize her as a fellow Saw militant when he captured her in Jedha. He would have obviously joined Saw's group after she left. Not that that wasn't already implied but still nice to see that the two films sync up correctly.

According to Wookieepedia (whatever that's worth), Jyn was born 21 years before the Battle of Yavin.

Yeah, Jyn the character was quite a bit younger than the actress's true age. That was discussed at length when the movie came out, how a 33 year old actress looked young enough to play 19-21 (at the time no one was certain of the age but speculation that she was Luke's age).

To me when Jyn and Saw are arguing about him leaving her behind it plays as if a much longer time period than five years has passed. "I was *sixteen* years old!" doesn't sound like something a 21 year old would say but I could imagine it coming from a 30 year old. I'm not saying that it isn't "official" that Jyn was 21 but in my mind the film itself (always the most important reference) doesn't treat her as such.

I recently saw this.

And I have to say.. it was really entertaining! I rated it a 8/10 at first.

Only 3 things I didn’t really like: L3 - but she died so quick it didn’t really matter.

Alden - he did his best but I never bought him has as Han, though he was likeable enough.

And as prime clone pointed out many times, everything was too on the nose. Any part of his backstory that was mentioned or even hinted at was all somehow told in this one movie.

But again, that didn’t ruin my enjoyment of it, outside maybe Khaleesi’s poorly performed teras kasi :lol

Outside of those complaints I liked pretty much everything.

I really think the movie should have made more, and it makes me wonder how many others missed out on it for similar reasons as I did (not gonna open that bag of worms here though)

As for the reason I say I ‘initially’ rated it at a 8/10 though:

I watched rogue one a few days after. Now it had been some time since I saw it last but it blew me away all over again.

RO is a solid 9 and made me realize that solo, while entertaining, is not an 8. It’s been adjusted down to a 7 in retrospect. Rogue one just hits on every level, and I don’t even find the pacing issues in the first 2 acts that many cite.

My one and only issue with RO is Saw Guerrera - he looks like he’s in a completely different movie with his overly affected and histrionic acting.

Still, I can’t give it a 10 as that would elevate it into OT territory, though I almost feel as if it belongs there.

Back to Solo, based on those notes Kasdan released, it seems all my favorite parts were from Lord and Miller, funnily enough. And not all the right decisions they made were purely ‘funny,’ or anything. Makes me wonder what their movie would have been like

But in the end it remains a bit on the nose for me and I can’t buy Alden as Han. So to me, it’s just what it’s subtitle applies, a solid, really entertaining and fun ‘Star Wars story,’ but I can’t take it seriously as canon.

These were my sentiments as well. Solo is great fun to watch but watching RO soon after made me realize how superior RO still is. Mad Old Lu said pretty much the same thing IIRC. :monkey3

Almost verbatim! :lol

Geez, you guys are going to shame me into giving RO another try!

Speak of the devil and he doth appear... :lol

I’ll have to go back and read that post then

And you should definitely watch it again!

Another note about RO and solo- one thing I felt they nailed was the creature and alien design, in which I felt the ST was lacking. They were inventive and I could find them all fitting within Lucas’ Star Wars. Except of course the Lovecraft-esque space kraken, but I’ll allow it :lol

Edit: :lol @ that Shia meme

Solo is such a tiny movie when compared to the superior RO.

We got:

Vader kicking all kinds of ass
Tarkin being a sinister bastard
Krennic being subjected to internal betrayal while causing his own external damage
Rebel freaking fleet with Gold and Red Leader
Princess Leia
Cool new characters

Yup sorry Solo lol

I liked 3 of the 6 in that meme! :lol

But seriously, those pictures in the meme and jye's favorite parts are all like in the last 20 minutes of the movie! Also, only 1 shot is of the actual, you know, protagonists of the movie. I think we all, even the meme creator, know the dirty little secret of RO which is that most of the movie is terrible and only the Vader part is good! :monkey3
