So Tony Stark is this total genius so when he gets back from begin held captive why doesn't he try and work on some sort of nanotechnology to remove the shrapnel headed towards his heart?

These things keep me up at night!

My question is how does a large impact or fall not kill Tony Stark regardless of his suit? He doesn't appear to have any cushioning inside it whatsoever. When the helmet gets crushed in why isn't Tony's head crushed in? How do his limbs not get dislocated constantly?

The only way to prevent him from being injured by shock would be an internal force field that permeates his entire body and prevents their molecules from being excessively moved. It would have to be very advanced, to adapt to his breathing, heart beat, and the flow of his blood, as well as other things. Without it, he would have been dead in the first movie when he got hit by that tank round in the sky. It's just like scrambling an egg without breaking the shell.

That's an excellent point. When Iron Man was invented, I don't think nanotechnology existed at the time. He could remove the shrapnel from his suit and still be a super hero who wears the armor. It wouldn't really affect the story much.

So I was never big into Iron Man when I collected comics, but I've become a big fan of the movies and Hot Toys. However, one thing has bugged me: How does Iron Man control his suit?
I mean I know he gets Jarvis to boost his thrusters and other things, but he's not talking to Jarvis all the time. Do him and Jarvis work on a mindlink or something to help him deploy weapons and all that?
And if Jarvis helps with the suit how come he didn't shut down the Mark 2 when Rhodey got into the suit? Couldn't he have just overrode Rhodes' commands? I'm confused.

In the comics, there are little sensors that detect when he flexes his muscles, and the suit moves in unison. He has tongue operated switches on the inside of his helmet, too. I believe it could also be done by the suit sensing his brain waves and then controlling the armor that way. In the comics, Jim Rhodes wore his armor for awhile and it really worse him out, because it was electronically tuned to Tony Stark's
nervous system, and so anyone else who wore it for a prolonged period of time would become extremely fatigued. Those were times when Tony Stark needed a stand in for times when he couldn't perform. Later, Stark made Rhodes his own armor, tuned to him.
