I'm sure look/feel will be fine (agree about light text on dark background, though -- hard on the eyes). Hopefully we'll have more options on colour palette and other display options. For me, the $30.00 fee will be worth it to reduce (hopefully eliminate) any ads.

He didn't miss read it - INT threads will need to go in commerce and thus whoever posts them will need to pay the fee. Hopefully we'll finally get rid of all those "wouldn't it be cool if [obscure actor no one ever heard of] was made?" and only real potential products will be posted about.

Just to go back to this for a minute, I really don't think the "lack of interest" interest threads are a problem. If there's no interest, the threads sink to the bottom. I think the real problem is people bumping threads with no news, or just bumping a thread to bump a pic that's already been quoted 18 times in the thread already. The recent iminime Last of Us thread springs to mind. Folks bumping a thread just to keep it on top. That just seems unnecessary to me.

I'm pretty sure if the Interest section goes the way Dave is planning, it will only be iminime threads anyways. The only people that will have posting privileges will be those that have already Premium status, and those folks all have similar interests, all these rainman/iminime/beto collectors. It will be a gentrification of the Customs section.

This is a good idea, it will also help to prevent banned members from continually coming back under new names and keep the frauds and scam artists at bay:clap

vBulletin can ban an IP address, which should be able to keep people from making new screen names, but either it doesn't work that way, or IPs aren't being banned, only screen names.

Okay there seems to be some confusion - Correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference in what we've understood and what you're saying is the verbatim right ?

In the new forum format, the initial thread is created in the customs section (Which serves as an interest thread) but for actual sales, that portion of the deal will now be ported to the commerce section ?

OR

Is that now even buyers end up having to get Premium Membership because if we're interested in something we can't post in the Commerce Section ?

And what about this,

Does everyone have the privilege to post in the Interest Section, but the creation of a new thread is restricted to Premium Members ? (Which is the unwarranted part that you mentioned in your post)

so can we still ask in our own custom threads(and are prem. member) i, if someones interested in seeing a certain suit or something..and then if there is, move it to the for sale section? that's how i get a lot of feedback for new stuff...so it would be weird changing that around...

That sucks.

:dunno

I liked the variety that the Interest section brought, but if you have to pay to check to see if anyone else will like something. . . it just kind of defeats the purpose, because people are only going to pay for a sure thing. It'll just be full of Batman and Walking Dead stuff, and Hot Toys replacement parts.

Paying a fee for an interest thread?

I support asking sellers to pay a nominal fee for the privilege of selling their wares. But changing up the forum design to a format and style few will like, and asking interest threads to be subject to a seller's fee is... poor form.

Seems like there are two camps here:

Rich people who are prepared to pay a nominal fee for the privilege of selling to a relatively known community.

And rich people who want something that used to be free to continue being that way because many of them don't even sell customs to begin with.

*ahem* Fixed.

This forum has helped me grow artistically, I've met friends, buyers, enthusiasts, I've met great talent and I have learned a LOT from other people and I've made GREAT artistic relationships.

Aside from learning and hanging out, I also sell my work here, so for that I'm very greatful to Dave and crew. I once told him that I wanted to donate as a thanks, but told me to hold my horses.

I am not rich, otherwise I wouldn't be working or selling my stuff, but $30 a YEAR is nothing for the priviledge to sell here, where you offer, advertise and sell your items directly to this particular demographic. You spend more on a night out with friends or GF or the missus.

I don't see how the pm space would benefit me. I and probably about 100 others were awarded 2,000 pm space by Dave over a year ago for liking a facebook page. So are my 2,000 pms going to disappear unless I pay the fee or what?

Dave told me in another thread that those people would still have their 2,000 pm space when they're moved over to the other forum.

Yep, that's a great post. No-one, IMO, has managed to make a sensible argument for why they're entitled to use someone else's board for unlimited free transactions. A lot of the points raised as reasons for not using other platforms (e.Bay - don't like fees/crooked buyers; Craig's List/Kijiji - too random; another site like Rebelscum - not enough traffic, etc.) only serve to reinforce the fact that Dave is providing access to a fairly unique demographic and should monetize it to recoup some of his expenses.

There's nobody here that intentionally buys figures to "flip" them though. So no worries. :)
:lol I hope you're joking.
Yes, I also find that hard to swallow. Not that I think there's anything really wrong with it or that it can be policed in any way. Just some of the buy/sell activities in the customs section are kind of annoying to watch, simply because of how fickle the collectors are.

Banning IP's is pointless with proxies and VPN's. I myself use a VPN 24/7 and I can change my IP to any state/country at any time.
