This forum has helped me grow artistically, I've met friends, buyers, enthusiasts, I've met great talent and I have learned a LOT from other people and I've made GREAT artistic relationships.

Aside from learning and hanging out, I also sell my work here, so for that I'm very greatful to Dave and crew. I once told him that I wanted to donate as a thanks, but told me to hold my horses.

I am not rich, otherwise I wouldn't be working or selling my stuff, but $30 a YEAR is nothing for the priviledge to sell here, where you offer, advertise and sell your items directly to this particular demographic. You spend more on a night out with friends or GF or the missus.

:goodpost:

May I ask why you're doing it, then? Again, this is your forum, so, it's, naturally, your choice, but, if people are going to hate it, I'm not sure that's a good thing.:lol I've always been of the opinion that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."

I'm doing it because this look is outdated and I'm tired of looking at it after 6 years. Also I've heard a lot of "it's ugly" over the years. I was being sarcastic about "You'll hate it" but if you are a person that hates change, then you'll hate it. If you hate the look of Sideshow's new site or iO7, then you'll hate it.

Also vBulletin 4 allows you to do a lot more with a forum - stuff I've been trying to do on the Facebook page - and I want to try and make it more of a destination for people including those that may not have participated on a forum before.

i wont be raising my prices...and i do have a facebook page to sell stuff and i do excl. stuff for toy anx....BUT i still want to sell here as well...so as much as this sucks..it may be a good thing too..im trying to keep an open mind on this whole thing..
however..im not too keen on changing of the look/feel of the board..im just now getting used to things around here....

so can we still ask in our own custom threads(and are prem. member) i, if someones interested in seeing a certain suit or something..and then if there is, move it to the for sale section? that's how i get a lot of feedback for new stuff...so it would be weird changing that around...

I would love for the custom threads to be just showing stuff off and discussion of how you did it and progress of a piece and any selling done in the commerce. But this is an evolving thing. I'd say that if you aren't sure which item to make and want to show both and have people comment about that - it would be best in the customs section.

That sucks.

:dunno

I liked the variety that the Interest section brought, but if you have to pay to check to see if anyone else will like something. . . it just kind of defeats the purpose, because people are only going to pay for a sure thing. It'll just be full of Batman and Walking Dead stuff, and Hot Toys replacement parts.

I guess it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that you just don't want to deal with any of that commerce so you'd like to jettison it out to space. I know you said as much, but it just sucks to see you having that opinion. To be frank, with seeing you want to close down all those "empty" forums, it seems like you don't even like this forum anymore. It's just kind of depressing to see all this stuff happening.

Also, FWIW, just so you don't think I'm part of the problem, I would like to help, and I'd offer my spare time as a mod, but I think you and I don't share the same goals for the board, and I'd probably warn and infract too many people, and merge and edit too many threads and start to piss people off. . . but it would all be done in the name of trying to create a more organized, cohesive forum-going experience. Famous last words, I'm sure.

I would like commerce to be a useful and pain free alternative to selling on ebay for people - where they can be sure that the person on the other end of the transaction isn't trying to screw them. I recognize it's value to the forum and this change is in the interests of increasing that value.

Dave do you think we can do something about the flippers on this board?

mainly the Rainman, Beto & Iminime flippers.

I'm sure you are well aware of this ongoing growing problem

I agree that's a problem - but I think it's up to the artist to do that. I don't think it would be out of line to PM one of the artists if someone is selling one of their items immediately after receiving it and then they (the artist) can decide if that person should be on the list for the next one.

I'm pretty sure Dave was being sarcastic when he said people won't like it. He's just anticipating the huge "I don't like the new format" thread when the board changes over.

Everybody hates stuff when something they're used to changes. People always ***** about the latest iteration of Sideshow's website. They hate this version and want the old version back, and when the old version was new, they hated that, and wanted the older version back.

There are still people that want the old version back. And they will hate the new look more than anyone.

I don't know. I really didn't say anything in a way to warrant sarcasm. Point is, I'm worried. This place is pretty much my favorite spot on the interwebz, and, if it's really changing that drastically; I just hope it doesn't affect the community too much.

It's a drastic change in form NOT function. You'll recognize the same old forums, but there will be more information (hopefully) and better organized.

Okay there seems to be some confusion - Correct me if I'm wrong but the only difference in what we've understood and what you're saying is the verbatim right ?

In the new forum format, the initial thread is created in the customs section (Which serves as an interest thread) but for actual sales, that portion of the deal will now be ported to the commerce section ?

OR

Is that now even buyers end up having to get Premium Membership because if we're interested in something we can't post in the Commerce Section ?

And what about this,

Does everyone have the privilege to post in the Interest Section, but the creation of a new thread is restricted to Premium Members ? (Which is the unwarranted part that you mentioned in your post)

There does seem to be some confusion about what an "Interest" thread would be. If Rainman wants to show his latest work he would post it in Customs section - he would post updates and photos there. When he's ready to solicit it he would create a sales thread in Commerce/Customs. No need for an INT thread because he's definitely going to make it.

But if someone posts a one-off headsculpt that they've done in customs and wants to see if it would be worthwhile to create it to sell - they would post an INT thread in Commerce/Customs to gauge interest.

It's an evolving thing - I'll have to look closely at what is currently in INTEREST and see how they'll translate over.

Ah, I see. Well, I happen to quite enjoy iOS7, so, I'd say I'm good, then.:lol I appreciate the responses, Dave!

thanks dave!
im actually tired of looking at the same site too(Design and colors)...just dont make it too different in the color area..(hard to look at, type of thing lol)...it will just take time to get used to the new site(same as the SSC site..which im finally getting used to)...so it's all good...

but does this mean we will be getting that well deserved custom gi joe section that you talked about awhile back? hmm hmmm?? please???

aslong as the new site isnt complicated and isnt messy ill be happy

thats the one massive thing i hate about the PRF everything is thrown into one giant section. for example they dont have a for sale and interest thread like this forum everything is thrown into "The Junkyard"

He didn't miss read it - INT threads will need to go in commerce and thus whoever posts them will need to pay the fee. Hopefully we'll finally get rid of all those "wouldn't it be cool if [obscure actor no one ever heard of] was made?" and only real potential products will be posted about.

Ironman1188 has opened up the issue of "wishlist" threads in General Collectibles.

Will threads like "Would you buy an Al Bundy figure?" in General Collectibles be allowed? Or will you have to post that thread in the Commerce - Interest?

Will we still have the "licenses wish list forums"?

As much as I hate it - that would be more suited to the General - Action Figures section.

I'm planning on doing away with Ask Sideshow and the Wish List forum. Any post about a license that isn't being made would go in General - Action Figures.

I rarely sell here so it doesn't bother me, I don't like having to pay to see less advertisement though. I guess if I want to sell something I should try to sell more items in order to recoup the annual fee.

I do think dealers should be forced to pay something to continue using SSF to direct business to their website. $30 a year doesn't seem like a bad price.

If you wish to use General Collectibles a dumping ground for threads that don't fit in other sections, I implore you to look into an Ignore Threads feature. It seems there is a working mod for vBulletin 3, but nothing yet for version 4. If you can add this functionality, I will pay for Premium Membership.

I still think GC separated out into multiple forums is the best solution, though.
