hmmm yarda sounds strange i use yarda for a cup or a unit of lenght .....you can tell him instead of " la yarda" = el césped or el pasto, good luck.

"La yarda" is pretty colloquial border spanish, but it generally gets the idea across--though there are more refined ways of saying it. Instead of "la yarda," we'd generally use "las hierbas" at home.
