Great film. I wasn't a fan of Skyfall. It had better set pieces and overall it is probably the better film but I though this had better pacing and was a lot more playful. Right behind Casino Royale for me.

Well I was right :yess:
Franz Oberhauser is really Ernst Stavro Blofeld.:clap:clap:clap

I've got to ask the most important question about the movie (and don't forget to cover up the spoiler): Does it have a gunbarrel opening?

Not out till November 12 here. Really looking forward to this one, Craig had been a great James Bond, hope he stays for as long as he can.

Yes, the gunbarrel sequence is at the beginning

I saw the film last night, it was excellent. It was a perfect blend of the Daniel Craig Bond era mixed with the classic Bond era. Great action and set pieces, great villains, great locations.

Casino Royale - 10/10
Spectre - 9/10
Skyfall - 8/10
Quantum of Solace - 6/10

To be honest, I think this film may change the way people view "Quantum of Solace". "Spectre" ties together all of Craig's Bond movies very nicely, creating a continuous four-part story in a series of it's own. My score for "Quantum of Solace" may improve if I watch it again having now seen "Spectre".

If Craig does decide to step down now, it's a perfect time to do it.

Thank you very much for the info. Quantum is the only Bond movie I haven't seen, but it sounds like I'll have to crack open that huge box set I have and get to it before I check this one out. I felt Skyfall was where Craig really grew into the role of Bond and made it his, and if Spectre is a good as it sounds, it seems quite a shame if he steps away while he's in full stride. I like how folks are saying it's returning to the classic form a bit too. There are a lot of reasons that the old movies have as many fans as they do. Can't wait for this one! :goodpost:

Well, since you asked...:)

I was kind of lukewarmish on Casino Royale. There's some good stuff in there, right out of the book (the first time in ages that a Bond movie had done that), but some of the action sequences I thought were overdone (parkour, anyone?) and way over the top. It was like they were forcing big action sequences into a lower key story just because that's what people expect from a Bond movie. I wasn't entirely sold on Craig being Bond at that point either. Connery is the only one I've thought was Bond from the first frame I saw him on screen. The others usually take a little time to step into the part for me because of that reason. Anyways, Quantum came out a few years later, got "meh" reviews and I figured I'd catch it on cable or video later. The best thing about the Bond series in a way is that the stories are unrelated. You don't need to see Thunderball to see For Your Eyes Only. Now, QOS is the only direct sequel in the series from my understanding, but it was never a priority to catch it due to reviews and habit, I guess. I'd always been able to see them whenever without missing anything storywise. I'll do my best to fix that before I see Spectre though. :007

I’m one of the few that really enjoys QOS. I think I may like it best from the Craig Bonds.

I thought CR was good, but like slackerboy said, some of the action was over the top. I’d say it was more like they went on for far too long and I just got bored. I also had some problems with it overall. I think they attributed too much of the Bond-isms to Vesper—she taught him how to dress and to be a womanizer (by feeling betrayed by V and therefore becoming cold towards women)? And the final “act” after the Bond kidnapping always feels odd pacing-wise, although I do really like the Venice building collapse scene.

I think Skyfall is better than CR—I think the mood and feel is right for Bond. But I think it drags at some points, like when he’s in Shanghai. I thought some of the action was a bit dull, but I did like the courthouse shootout.

And I think QOS is better than the two of those—although I acknowledge it’s not without its problems. I’m not crazy about the scenes in Bolivia (the motorcycle/boat chase, and the plane sinkhole scene). But I thought the beginning car and foot chase were excellent, and I loved the opera scene. I also liked how the took down that agent in the Bolivia hotel room. I liked how he seduced Strawberry Fields—I thought that was quintessential Bond. I also appreciate that the movie is fast and tight.

Ok, good to know that I'm not just crazy. I also can't stand the fact that they play Texas Hold 'em instead of baccarat. I know Texas Hold 'em was big at the time, but Bond plays baccarat in all the old movies and the books. They're in Montenegro, not a Celebrity Poker taping in Las Vegas! I guess they figured the audience would have no idea what baccarat is. Just makes me sad when a film series with that much history behind it feels like it has to play to the lowest common denominator.

It would actually be kind of funny to see Bond sitting next to all the old ladies at the nickel slots, waiting for the waitress to come back with his free drink. :p

I enjoyed QOS much more so the second time around

I agree with a lot of what you said, Lou. The pacing does feel a little odd in casino royale at the end. However it doesn't take anything away from the film for me.

Quantom gets better each time I watch it, especially now as it is tied into spectre, as others have mentioned.

For me, not having seen spectre, Craig's best bond is casino royale, followed by skyfall then Quantom in last. But I'd say all of his films are all good to great. Which is pretty damn good.
