Now that Marvel has announced that Iron Fist will no longer be played by a white guy but asian instead I can’t wait for the Shang and Iron Fist confusion to begin lol

So now in the MCU, only Asians can be martial arts masters? :dunno

That's not stereotypical at all.... :lol

So what's their plans for Daredevil?

Where was this dumb **** announced?

For the comics. The comics whore out any character anyway. You should look at all the iterations just for Captain America. Quality of the show aside, I still remember some Marvel writer bitching on Twitter and getting attention for how Iron Fist on Netflix should have been Asian-American cause that's how he should be. Not like she was biased even though she is partly Asian as well. Not sure if she was mad that an Asian Mandarin was actually race swapped for an old British guy.

As long as there is a negative value associated with "cultural appropriation" -- whatever the hell that's supposed to actually mean -- then mass segregation is inevitable. It's really quite idiotic.

The idea being: no one that isn't can.

So much for triumph of the human spirit.

I'm pissed because I can no longer make Chinese food.

Part, not full... so only small meals for you: half a taco, pasta with no sauce... and only 3 pints.
My heritage is mostly German so you will have to hand those over to me.

As I've said before, a great deal of this has gone too far in terms of over-correction, witch hunts and general hysteria. That being said, cultural appropriation is real enough and based on systemic power structures (think the legacy of colonialism/imperialism) and in my opinion contextually sensitive.

A white dude learning Eastern martial arts is not appropriation provided the story is respectful; I believe that Iron Fist may in fact be a gray area given the character was presumably designed to be relatable as a power fantasy to dorky white dudes, but the story itself is arguably respectful of Asian martial arts culture although it deals in certain tropes that can be taken as reductive; hence gray area.

A white girl at a rock festival in middle America donning the sacred head dress of a badly damaged indigenous culture as a fashion accessory -- there's a pretty clear cut case of appropriation.

Japanese assimilating and re-contextualizing Western things like Cowboys is presumably not appropriation in the sense that it's (a) not religious or sacred and (b) no one is "punching down" so to speak.

Certain things need to be examined critically and discussed rationally. Rational discussion is in short supply these days, particularly in North America it seems. Knee-jerk reactions, profit-driven corporate focus groups and goofy over-corrections are the norm, the result being more polarization and things like the ST
