That umbrella scene is worse than anything from the MCU lol

Definite miss in an otherwise solid outing. I started Spider-Man 3 last night and I'm trying to work out what happened. The snow-boarding Goblin is dumb but even the effects seem to take a downgrade. Poor start and I'm nowhere near Dancing Tobey yet.

Watch the armored car scene when it slides on its side wait to you see how bad the rendering is while sliding over the concrete it’s really bad lol

The movie took a dive in some of the cgi, not all are bad but more so than the previous 2.

The father reaction to Gwen hanging from a high rise is hilariously bad he reacts like his toast was burnt especially with Brock making a wise comment.

But there are elements I love in S3 so it’s not all a dumpster fire that honor still goes to ASM movies lol

Yeah I just got to that part (in between sleeping off my booster shot) -- Gwen's about to be street pizza and her dad and boyfriend are just slightly nonplussed.

I see where the FX money went ... the symbiote looks good so far and Sandman's intro obviously ate the CGI budget.

You just hit the nail on the head.

One thing I absolutely love though is the trailer from S3!

Hell all the trailers from S1/2/3 were great!

MJ's ex should have been Venom in SM 3. He got dumped on his wedding day for Peter Parker, so he had a personal reason to hate Peter. He was also an astronaut so he could have brought the Venom with him on the ship, and he was JJ's son, so he probably didn't care much for Spiderman.

Goblin jr had to be in the film because the second film set him up as such, but his costume design and glider were kind of lame.

Sandman had no business being in the film, but Raimi wanted him because that was his favorite villain growing up. His introduction when he becomes Sandman was truly great tho, but he didn't need to be in the film or be the guy responsible for Ben's death. Ii hate when film retcon things for no reason.

Very obvious fandom and very, very well done. That Sandman CG still holds up.

Finished SM3 just now:

1. Stop cheating on every guy you've ever been with MJ!

2. Peter Parker was especially dorky in this one.

3. I have seen the full Tobey Dance after years and now I can't unsee it. 😐

4. The writing for Parker was actually good -- he came across as a socially awkward, immature kid who couldn't handle any of what he was given. It was cringe-worthy but quite realistic.

5. Ummm...way to go Harry's butler. You couldn't have given him that speech at any time in the last couple of years to prevent dark obsession, evil-doing and permanent scarring? Also the explanation was a little bit lacking and once again I have to wonder where the law in NYC is.

6. I get that Osborn's very rich but really, you can just blow up penthouses and no one in NYC investigates?

7. The film is not good, but has its moments. I was surprised by everything Raimi was able to cram into it. I don't get Sandman's flip-flopping characterization. Murderous sociopath, hates Spider-Man, teams up with monster to kill him, magically has a change of heart after watching monster die ...

8. Maybe MJ keeps getting fired because every time she sees Peter show up she either drops lines or stops singing. Just sayin'.

I definitely have MCU fatigue because one thing I loved about SM1-2-3 is that each film can be a standalone and doesn't lead endlessly to the next.

***Edit: something about Dancing Tobey in the street reminds me of The Joker.

John Dykstra worked on the effects for the first two but had nothing to do with the third one so there’s that. The budget for 3 was insanely high so they probably moved each separate effects, Sandman, Venom etc to different companies and that’s when you start to see variable quality in these films.

Was it Flash Thompson? Doesn't he become Venom at one point in the books?

Noticed that as well LOL

Yes, in the comics and in SM3 movie Venom is Flash Thompson. However, rather than using Flash and introducing a new character and conflict, I would have used MJ's ex, who was going to space and had a personal grudge against MJ and Peter. It would have been a good way to continue the story. Instead, they introduced Flash as a rival photographer, but his desired to want Peter dead seemed forced, imo.

Eddie Brock, not Flash in SM3.

Yeah, I just looked it up, in the comics Flash becomes Agent Venom. The guy I was actually thinking of is Man Wolf - John Jameson.
