I think it'll help to split the customs section. It'll make things easier to find.

If anything, I'd like it if the threads with PICTURES of WIP & finished projects were kept divided from everything else with no pictures of custom work. That way it would be both easier to find & see stuff.

Yes, that's why I suggested it.

Normally, I'm very opposed to new ways to segregate the forum. But in this case, I'd actually propose 3 sections: "Show Your Work", "How-To", and "Commissions."

Technically "commissions" are not allowed and that's why that subforum was dissolved a while ago.

I do not see how a separate how-to section would be too much of a change seeing how most of the tutorial threads are buried by the other various stuff. This way, those would wants a tutorial on something would click on this new section and those who do read tutorials, wouldn't be affected at all

just make a seperate "custom jokers" section. that will clear out a majority of the threads.

:lol:lol

in my opinion
a lot of times an artist will post their work and get help along the way until it reaches completion and then showcase it in the same thread...

perhaps inprog and finished sections would be nice

I think a separation would be helpful.

I find looking over this section, there's a mix of threads that are actually showing work and ones looking for information on how to build customs and where to acquire parts for them.

I think having one area devoted to actually showing work, be it finished or in progress, and one more for inquiries would allow those insterested in just seeing work to be exposed to more works because those threads aren't being lost in the mix with inquiry threads, and those really looking for information and things can easily go to that area to find or post answers, and might also have a better chance of getting their inquiries responded to because they're not lost in the mix with shown off work.

I think a separation would be good. Sometimes I like looking at the custom work and sometimes I like to salivate over what I can add to my collection.
Is it still considered a commission if the artist makes them on his own and just offers them for sale?

A commission is where you hire someone to do a job, buying something already done is just a purchase. I would think if someone wants to sell something they've already made, that should probably be put up in the For Sale section of Commerce.

I wouldn't mind a dedicated how to section, but sometimes, when I see a great custom, I don't want to have to do extra searching to find out how it was done, where to get parts, and to see a bunch of other in progress pics. I like it to all be in the same thread. Sure threads get long, but if you are interested in a custom, it's nice to have all the info, as well as other people's versions of it (if copies or kits were made), all in one place.

The Good/Bad/Ugly thread, for example, is 60 pages long, but it has all the info you will ever need on it.

As I understand it now, the natural evolution of discussing a custom shown, recipe/how to/etc, will continue in a "look at my work" thread, just those threads not containing images of finshed or wip customs will be in a separate section so, in theory anyway, we won't have to search through picture-less "Wouldn't it be great if someone made 'Son of Flubber' or 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People' figures" or "where can I find a 1/6 fire hydrant" type of threads.

I don't think the intent is to remove anything about asking how to do something or find something from the area, just threads that are specifically looking for things. Some members pop up threads like "Looking for jacket to use for custom _____" or "How do you___?" and stuff like that would be better of in it's own section as most of it will be just information, and the other section would be for actually showing work and making things.

I even separate those threads that only have the intent and the interest to show their work in order to attract customers and sell from those threads that only try to show their work without any commercial purpose.

The threads of sale of some customizers should go apart, since the objective is to sell their work, not show it ;)

I think it would be a good idea. But i suggest 4 sections. "How to" "Show your work" "Commissions/Anything related to selling customs" and "WIPS"
