Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Well if I do start to give it a shot we should compare notes. I hate to say I am kind of thinking abut a select few things I would want to try.... First and foremost it would be a Hulk...lol.

Hmmm... At idea what you are going to paint the teeth with m8.

Teeth are hard for real even when drawing. I usually use like animation teeth. Like minimal lines

Dude lmao I don't even know who I'd start off with. Hulk would be sooooo killer. I'd spend like days on the face especially after the fiasco this new Green PF has created. I'd probably do a Ninja Turtle lol. Used to draw them the most as a kid and there are VERY FEW good turtle statues. Wanted to get the Com Ex's but can't find em at a decent price. So kicking myself for missing those. But yeah Mikey probably or Leo. However I'd eventually do Spidey second as I love Spiderman and then a Batman

If I do up a Hulk I would probably try to do up a few COHs (Keown, Pelletier, and MGuinesses). Maybe even a few different posses. Then after Hulk I thin Spidey would be my next attempt. Maybe even one based off of the Canale Com with a few COHs (Romita, McFaralne, Bagley). Let's just say I have some BIG ideas...lol.

As for the teeth I draw them the same way. It is way to easy to have the Chicklet thing happening.

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Hulks teeth do look great but let's not forget, digital sculpting has a tremendous advantage with those kind of details.

Of course this is true.... I am just impressed you even went with an open mouthed pose.... How is it coming anyway tamato

Pretty good, just cleaning it up. Had a little setback, I primed it for paint but the primer I used came out kind of gritty and seemed to stay tacky so I'm taking it off and trying again. I need to buy an airbrush!

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Hey tomato, do you start with a block and scrape away or build up adding putty where needed?
Thanks.
I'm going to give it ago, can't work for at least four months

No, with polymer clay you build up. You want to first start with some kind of wire or foil armature as the clay can't hold complex form (plus you want something to hold on to while you work).

For example, I started this bust by tightly balling up aluminum foil around a chopstick, after getting a very basic head shape I began adding clay, this also greatly reduces the amount of clay you need to use. Then just push it around and add and subtract until you begin to form the basic shape and proportions, constantly viewing it from all angles, a good tip is to also view it in a mirror as this will point out any weirdness that you may have missed. And just keep refining until you're happy, comparing often to your source material.

Honestly I use just my hands for most of the work and then refine with tools and they can really be anything you can find around, of course you can buy sculpting tools from any craft shop. I'm still learning myself but it's quite a rush to start with a chopstick and end with a portrait that evokes feeling and emotion!

Scour youtube and other places like these forums for tons of "how to" videos on building armatures and sculpting and most of all have fun with it!

Re: Official Sideshow Batman PF

Thanks tomato'
I made these very basic stands for my spare portraits...

I'm hoping, with a bit of practice, to produce something like this...

Anyway thanks for the tips.

Sorry, back to Batman...
