I'm not sure about the comic, but the toy and cartoon versions had silver sigils I believe. In the comics, they weren't even drawn with a sigil half the time, but I don't remember seeing the silver.

The Cobra troops had red sigils in the comics as well as red masks. The artists were pretty liberal with the helmet insignias. Some were bare like the Trooper, some had the chevron like the Officer, and some just had little Cobra sigils on them.
The webgear would also alternate from tan (most of the time) to black, depending on who was coloring the issue at the time.

yeah i still have to hunt down Snakes and Storm Shadow.
However, i'm going to hold off on CC until they make a helmeted version... or for 1 year.
Whichever comes first.

Yeah, I'd rather have the helmet version too but once I saw the pic of Kings CC with the Drizzle cape and DID boots I caved....

yes, nice mods indeed.
i can't imagine sideshow not doing a helmeted commander though... which to me, was always the quintessential look.
I only have masked CC because of a trade, but he is pretty dang cool when you see him in person. Still not the iconic Cobra Commander that I want to keep displayed, however. I figure Sideshow will get to him when they figure out how best to do the metallic finish for him and Destro.

I like the idea of having two in the future. One can be displayed with a pair of troopers and the other with Destro and Baroness.... at least that's my plan. I really, REALLY hope the next CC has the classic figure look with stirrups and the big red line down the pant leg.

Although one I wouldn't display with him (simply because the figure never came with it and I prefer the look without), the cape would make a great Ex.
