Given the sheer number of their ranks, I can understand the lack of a force multiplier. :lol

Yeah, the trooper did come with grenades for the undermounted launcher under his AK.

I guess cannon fodder don't get the goodies.

Red frags might make good exclusives if SSC considers them too flashy to make the regular release.

That would be a cool throwback. Makes more sense to me that the googles.

But I don't think any EXs should be rehashed items that came with other figures, like the googles (Duke). I guess that eliminates frag grenades as well, even if they are different colored.

looks good. and what a surprise. they are really picking up steam on their releases now. all that "this line is over" stuff must have paid off.:lol

PS. I just put the few people in this thread, who say this will be their first Joe, on ignore. why bother? save the figures for the true fans.

I'm really digging this guy. I thought the Sniper would be all I needed troop wise but man is the Viper looking sweet.

I'd be okay with SSC doing the boots closer to the Hasbro 25th anniversary update in this case. The original boot/kneepad combo is a bit strange.

They prolly will, but I don't agree. Loved the original boots on the viper. They look awesome and used them on lots of customs :lol

I just picked up the red ninja and now they are hitting me with this? Im gonna need two jobs. I thought it would be fair if I bought the cobra figures and my bro buys the joes.... so far im getting slammed!

You'll never see me complaining anytime SSC decides to match the card art top to bottom for any figure. Looks like the Hasbro figure is all blue and black from the waist down. Hopefully SSC doesn't ditch the red accents.

Yea it doesnt pan over enough in the preview to see if the red stripe is on the vest to carry down the legs. Hope they add it too.

We've seen a new preorder from the 12 Days of Christmas preview, what, every 2-3 weeks now for the last month or so? We should see Hawk a week or two from this Thursday. :rock

I know Craw. I guess that guy in the hat that said in their CC GI JOE panel video "We haven't even taken a breath of slowing down in 1/6 scale" (aka the guy in the hat) got pissed off when I posted a comment on their FB page "Does SS still make 1/6 GI Joe figures?". They are spitting them out now.

Fan-freakin'-tastic!

I know I am a little late to the party on this one, I have been working 12-hour-days with an hour and a half drive each way. But I will chime in now with my own "attaboy" to Sideshow. The only way I could possible like this figure more is if was all black.

Just one more figure that I'll pee all over myself to get it in-hand!

Nice to see they're finally picking up the pace after the 2010 vacation. :lol

The Cobra Soldier figure was the standard infantry trooper for Cobra,[5] until 1986 when Hasbro released the Cobra Viper figure.[6] The Viper's uniform featured a black flak jacket and a mirrored mask that resembled the battle mask worn by Cobra Commander.[6][7] This figure was later released both as part of the Python Patrol and Sonic Fighters sub-lines of G.I. Joe in alternate colors, in 1989 and 1990 respectively.[8][9] In 1994 a new standard infantry Viper figure was released with an all-new look (purple armor with gas mask).[10] In the G.I. Joe comic book series published by Marvel this version of the Viper was portrayed as being a yellow/gold color.[11] This new uniform did not last long however and Cobra has since returned to the more familiar Viper look for its standard Vipers.

Ever since Hasbro released the standard Viper in 1986 there has been some confusion as to what the Vipers' purpose is within the Cobra Command as opposed to that of the basic Cobra Troopers. Both characters are listed as being "Infantry" and as being at the bottom of the Cobra hierarchy.

In 1998 Hasbro released a "Cobra Infantry Team" 3-pack in in which both the Cobra Troopers and Officer were simply repaints of the 1986 Cobra Viper.[20] While this may suggest to some that Vipers and Troopers are indeed the same thing, the filecard suggests otherwise:

"The Cobra Troopers are the most basic, bottom-of-the-barrel soldiers in the Cobra regime. They have to work their way up to even become Vipers".[21]

This text would be repeated on further filecards included with Cobra Trooper figures.[22]

I think the 1990 Sonic version would be a good exclusive or repaint. Always liked the color scheme.
