today 3.75 a gallon, and its varied by a dime or so for the last 6 months, but 2 years ago it was 5$

FYI, I'm paying more than that for gas.

One thing I've read is that the workers in China are starting to get paid more as well. I dont remember the number but that on top of what Nam posted all makes the cost of these figures go up.

I'm down for paying less on these figures but folks just need to get over the fact they're not coming back down anytime soon. This is the market for these items now.

Right there is the truth, "the market". The material or labor costs is just something people around here have attached to it to feel better. Like I said, if labor and material was so expensive, why are coffee makers still $15 and not $50? Why are plastic hangers still 10 for $1?

The "market" is what we as consumers are willing to pay. If orders for GI Joe product slow down, SSC can do 3 things.

1)accept the lower sales
2)lower prices
3)cancel production

They took route 3 on the LOTR and Indy lines. Hopefully they do 1 or 2 for GI Joe.

If I was SSC, I would actually stick it out. Some products will be big hits, some will be slightly less but I bet they can live with having an overstock once in a while considering the high prices. They need to not panic and go cancelling stuff or get themselves into a cycle of raising prices again which will only cause lower orders.

the other thing is SSC needs to watch the nickle and diming right now. not every figure needs 4 rifles, 10 hands, 4 boots, and 23 grenades.

For example, SSC's pledge to put the laser rifle in every Joe release is overkill and ups the price of the figure a few bucks. In this economy $5-$10 bucks could mean selling 10% more units of something. Fans of the rifle could easily have been appeased with a 5 pack.

Over accessorizing Frodo and Sam may actually have been 1 cause for their slow sales. Could SSC have decreased the prices by $10 by excluding some of that stuff?

I'd say at the very least load those mofos up with everything possible. The more display options the better!

speak for yourself. all my figures are pretty much loaded down with everything. plus it doesn't really matter how much they come with. i bet if they cut out half the acessories they'd still charge the same price anyway.

Ya 125$ isnt bad IMO, right now I pay close to 200$ each and id actually pay more if I knew they were going to make a bunch more of them, hell Ive paid alot more for some HT stuff that isnt that much better
