Did receive my Exclusive Snowspeeder Pilot Luke this morning. Past the price issue, that got even worse with import and processing fees, height and paint app are certainly not up to the standard set by HT with their latest releases. Yet, once on shelf, it is not that far off HT realizations, especially when you take sculpting into account as HT Hamill interpretations are not spot on either.

Lacking skills to improve paint app, i decided to take a shot at the height issue. I first thought about swapping bodies but short Sideshow bodies are hard to come by lately. Then, while futzing the outfit, i realized this Luke was fitted with ankle extenders. So, after a couple hours work, i managed to solve that problem and get Luke back to his proper height.

Ankle Pegs Extenders. Twist and pull to remove. You'll have to open up legs for them to come off.

View attachment 344633

Dremeled off all matter up the ball joint.

View attachment 344634

Cut old connector part so it fits back in the leg.

View attachment 344635

Depending on how much matter you left on the connector, glue might be needed to secure the connector back in the leg.

Now a perfect match to X-Wing Pilot Luke.

And here next to Hoth Han.

Thanks for the info. Do you still get a good range of movement from the ankle joints after doing this mod?

A few shots of the helmeted head.

About ankle range of movement, it's pretty much fully preserved as boots tops are mostly responsible for any limitations.

Thanks that's good news :wink1:

Not everyone's cup of tea I guess. In person I easily say it compares to HT. Yes the headsculpt/paint isn't as good as it should be, it's a bit too tall, and it's overpriced considering what HT gives for less. But I'm happy with what we got here.

One thing that concerned me a little before I got the figure is that the hands would be oversized. In hand(no pun intended) it looks fine. I do wish they parted the bangs a little more on the unhelmeted head.

Someone obviously doesn't own one.

Overpriced? Probably. But it's an excellent figure in person, and pops among a Hot Toys collection.

It does look really good in hand. The helmet sculpt is better than the Luke sculpts from HT, it captures Hamill's likeness, Luke's character, and just as lifelike as HT's best, it's just let down by the paint apps a bit. The non-helmeted sculpt is another thing entirely.
The outfit is also extremely well done. The jacket, vest, and belt w/ pouches are stand outs. The height may be off a bit (he's half an inch too tall), but the underlying body is still really good just not perfect like a True Type. It's unfortunate that this doesn't come with more for the price, it should've come with a snow themed base and grapple gun.

I'd give Snowspeeder Luke a solid B, if you can buy it discounted like I did it's an A.

I'm just throwing this out there. Do you think they amended the Helmeted sculpt from the proto or is this just a lighting issue? It seems in this proto pic that the mouth is closed?:dunno

Mouth opened there. It appears closed because of the lighting (or lack of it in that instance) if you ask me.

Though it's apparently not meant to be removable as chin strap is glued on both sides of the helmet and top and bottom parts have also two small glue spots where they connect at the ears, here is Luke sporting its flight cap.

That's awesome! :clap
I agree, it's just the lighting that makes it look closed.
It also appears that the flight cap portion of the head is keyed in several spots. Once it's off, can the helmet be lowered a bit? I think it sits just a tad high on the head out of the box.

I don't believe so. Capped HS has sculpted "ears" that fits in the helmet and secure it very tightly on the head.

You're kicking *** with this figure today. :clap

Thx. It's been a while since i received a new figure. I also had a few hours to kill and had been anticipating this release for a looooong time. Even though i find it unacceptable from Sideshow to cut corners on such an important matter as size consistency from one release to another, it at least gave me an opportunity to have a lot of fun today futzing that figure top to bottom.

I just noticed your body mod on the other page Tee-Kay, thanks for posting this! It looks simple enough to make the fix, I might try that sometime later.

great stuff Tee-Kay!!!

I so excited that the figure can be made the correct height -- so much better looking -- and that the helmet is removable to a point.

Thanks for all the remarkable photos.

You are welcome. Not a highly skilled modder so i'd say this can be achieved by pretty much anyone on these boards. Trickiest part is certainly opening up both legs to allow for the extenders to be removed without any damage. Using a hairdryer (what i didn't do) to soften the glue might help.

Cool pics your smashing this thread today!! :clap

I can see mods a plenty being posted on this thread in the near future.

Tremendous work unpacking the mystery of this figure Tee Kay. Jason is another recent SSC figure where you can see decisions made early on that were changed at some point in production. Why not promote the flight cap? That's a pretty cool option. Figure is still nowhere near worth the price being asked, but clearly you are making the very best of this, and turning this into a pretty sweet figure.

I agree, flight cap is cool. However, the sculpt looks nothing like Luke. As posted above, he could be Dak or Hobbie. Custom anyone? :)

It's possible they felt it didn't look enough like him in the cap when the helmet was off, but I agree it should have been an option since it looks like all of the work was done so that it could have been. They make some strange decisions at SS.
