Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

This movie was awesome....

I don't think anyone ever made a guy movie like this one...From they way they talk to each other to knives, big guns, explosions, beautiful women, martial arts, wrestling and cage fighting....everything in one movie.....

No forgetting the meeting of the century... Rambo, Terminator and Die Hard.....that was a funny sequence....

It is truly a guy's movie......

I loved it.....

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

This movie is Citizen Kane compared to action movies of today. We should be thankful we even got this. They don't make them like this anymore. These guys are the last bastion of testosterone Hollywood has left.

That's what been exciting about the notion of this movie, I've known all along Stallone's intent was to go back to the kind of movies the older guys are infamous for doing . While it had a bit more story to it, I even thought Rambo felt more like an old school 80's action movie than the action films of today. It's fun to just take everything over the top and make a wild ride out of it, and I can't imagine today's generation of guys not still being entertained by crazy explosions and fights and all, I think those things tap into a primal nature. And if anything, there are plenty of filmgoers today that need everything dumbed down and 80's action style is perfect to cater to that. I hope this movie will be a catalyst for the return of such films.

Step Up 3D is more your cup of tea.

If only Mancrushers' Brad Pitt was in it. :lol

Seriously, K is right, dead on right. Good news is, if this performs well and it will, we'll see more equity flow into more Old School Action flicks. This I know for a fact -- and this is the best news of all.

I agree 100% with what he said.....

Great movie...

I was a teenager in the 80's and loved the action flicks of the generation. The Expendables isn't close to those films except in death counts and explosions.

I loved the 80's characters like Rambo, Dutch and McClane etc. which is why those movies were awesome regardless their misgivings. The characters in the new film were meh, except Stratham. He captured the essence of an 80's action hero quite well.

Otherwise, the film seemed rushed, incomplete and half-hearted which was a real shame. I was pulling for it to be good, I wanted it to be good on many levels, IMO it flopped. Because I want it to be like the films of the 80's and it had 80's action stars doesn't make it a good film. :monkey2

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

So,

did it have more carnage than his last Rambo?

Nope. Not even close at ALL.

That's my only problem with the movie. It wasnt violent enough...and when it was, it was all CGI. CGI blood is hidous looking. Period. Is it easier to clean? Yes. Is it easier to take out if you're going to PG-13 the ____ outta it? Yes.....but it's still distractingly horrible.

It did feel like Sly used Action Essentials 2 when he made this movie....:lol, I saw some of the fire effects I think.

But oh well. I loved it all the same.

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

There's two violent deaths in the movie. One is a torso split, and a decap. The rest is all gun shots and bad CGI. :(

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

the action was good, some pacing was really slow, many of the actors were WAY underutilized, -mixed with a weak story and pretty bad dialogue. I went in expecting a shoot em up and nothing more and still left disappointed.

More Cobra than Rambo IMO

Re: Stallone`s new movie "The Expendables"

Well.....

I liked it...

But was hoping to have loved it!

As has been already mentioned, so many lost opportunities!

Some were definately capitalized on with decent payoffs but then there were a ton that were missed!

I felt like I was watching a movie called "Almost"

The story, acting, action %, humor, carnage, car chases, explosions, suspense, drama, villians, cameos, martial arts, camradery, Rourke crying, female involvement, general bad assery......

All of that "Almost" succeeded for me.

But collectively it all fell short and since you can't almost be pregnant, you can't almost love a movie.

I guess i'll just have to settle for just liking it. :lol

Oh, and CelticP was correct, Rambo IV had more weaponized carnage but what was on display in the E was decent enough...but I was hoping for much more.

Instead I got to watch them running around planting explosives....yawn :lol

But they did it in slow motion!! :lol....well one did...

:lol they should've used Chariots of Fire music!

I'll give you that there were some cool deaths, I just wish that they could've quadrupled them.

My litmus test if I love a movie or not is if I'll see it again in the movie theater.

This movie, I'm afraid not :(

A few things I want to see on the extended cut DVD:

More jokes with Jet Li wanting more money for his family
More human disintegration by gun fire
More V8 rumble during car chases
More human disintegration by knives
More Rourke crying and smoking a pipe like a Hobbit
More human disintegration by explosions
More Statham basketball murders
More human disintegration period

Holy abuse of CGI fire :horror
