Re: Star Trek TOS head sculpts
As promised, I've hauled out the camera...
Our heroes, lookin' mighty good; Spenser has one hell of a seamstress doing the work here. The quality is simply outstanding...
My personal contribution...the Chair, now properly occupied.Interestingly, though I gave all 3 a try in it, Kirk fits the best(due to the body he's on, no doubt).
A mini-review, then. In addition to expert sewing work(even my wife is impressed), the details are every bit as good. The badge is crisp and well rendered.I used to own an accurate copy of one in leatherette(as per the original issue) and these look perfect(not a word I use lightly).
THe braid is also very well executed, with nice color reproduction as to the gradations. I hadn't realized how intricate the original braid was, but Spenser has captured it well...
The boots; hard castings, very well sculpted and cast. you'll need to remove the feet from whatever body you use, but seriously, how much are we really going to be playing with these guys? Also, as the pants do tend to ride up it's a good idea to paint the lower leg section black to hide this. I might also suggest that Spenser might consider using a bit less pigment when he does his castings;on at least one of my sets the dye is coming off onto my nails(having done my share of casting work, I understand how tricky getting the right amount can be; trial and error at it's best, or worst)...
Finally, as promised, the castings of the figures I worked on years ago(for Danbury, I think). We actually did 4 characters, but I was only able to snag copies of these 2.The likenesses are pretty sharp for their size(@5"tall).As i said, Scotty's paint job is a bit rough;guess I need to work on it...
I have even more shots if anyone is interested...PS
