Star Wars: Andor (September 21st, 2022)

This was honestly one of my favorite moments of this epic episode.

Well...the ISB doesn't care if he's a problem gambler, they only care about weird banking moves, so he's a bold but convenient excuse. And kind of a **** so really, who can blame her?


That's been softened a bit since they illustrated her daughter reaching for a conservative Chandrilan (sp?) identity by attaching herself to old ways her own parents either ignored or eschewed ... a rebellion by a spoiled rich girl trying to make her progressive mom mad. She's not being forced but I guess it's still a cold set-up by a calculating mom.

I think she's just trying to buy herself a bit more time before she either has to go on the run or Davo Sculdun covers the discrepancies in her account. But it may not be that smart of a move, because if the ISB determine it's a red herring then they'll know she lied to hide something else.

The only Star Wars that's on the same level as Andor for me now is Empire and Rogue One.

It makes the PT, ST and all other Disney stuff look childish by comparison.

It's cold of her though. The husband could be a jerk yes, but this could hurt him down the line. I'm surprised after this, she still went through with the betrothal of her daughter.

I agree that the Empire seemed to let the hologram go on for way too long and then I was also surprised that the Imperials waited so long to turn their blasters on the mob. I didn't mind the headbutt so much but was disappointed that the guy in the tower so easily kicked the Stormie off the ledge. I was picturing the guy with the hammer being taken out like Barry Pepper's character in Saving Private Ryan and instead they gave him a weird little superhero moment that was once again at a Stormtrooper's expense.

But aside from those moments the finale was spectacular and was pure 1977-1982 SW for me. The SW that I enjoyed and imagined before ewoks, Gungans, Battle Droids, lightsaber ballet, and all the rest. I think the feel and quality of this show even out-Duned Dune.

I agree that the Empire seemed to let the hologram go on for way too long and then I was also surprised that the Imperials waited so long to turn their blasters on the mob.

I think the delay in opening fire was realistic; this was the Empire reacting a touch slowly to the unbelievable-to-them idea that they weren't in full control.

The hologram duration was definitely dramatic license though.

I didn't mind the headbutt so much but was disappointed that the guy in the tower so easily kicked the Stormie off the ledge. I just picture headbutting a motorcycle helmet and I'm like "Nah" ... as for the tower I agree. In a small way we'd got to know that guy, may have had more impact to have a Death Trooper shoot him or soldiers capture him.

I loved LOVED “Sky and Stone…”

Think about it…Death Star is nothing but a big round boulder (stone) in the sky that is about to roll around the galaxy chasing Indy.

I loved the part prior to her speech when B2 gives them the signal to play the music faster and start marching towards the line.

Whole town was basically telling the Empire to go **** themselves before Marvas speech, that was just the tipping point.

Not that I did make much of a case. This laptop sucks, half the keys don't work properly and I actually have to copy and paste space (spacebar), some letters and question marks which makes composing a post more trouble than it's worth. It's why my posts, if I post, are always so short these days.

12 Eps of some the most compelling SW content and characters, we've seen in decades, further reinforcing real power isn't ever the machines or the tech, but sacrifice and the will to fight. And here fans are so far up their own, their main takeaway is still b!t#ing about Ewoks beat Storm troopers, which Lucas established decades ago.

Why does it have to be a competition? Star Wars is for everyone, there's bound to be different content with different themes and tones.

Andor is amazing but I disagree with the "This is what Star Wars should be!!!" cries, Star Wars can and should be many things.

I really love slow-burners, precisely because they, when done well, build up to a nice fine crescendo (Why I absolutely love Joker, that whole Murray scene through to the riots and the music by Hildur Gudnadottir smashing a trash can lid over it is phenomenal). So for me I can rewatch this a lot, very happy and thankful we got this, and I eat my words for ever disparaging them even making such a show for a character like Andor. Rogue One is my second favourite, and I'm very much looking forward to watching it again after seeing Andor to see how the show has heightened his character in that.

I absolutely loved his all chips in, 'either I'm part of the Rebellion or kill me right now'. The show has perfectly captured in an extremely satisfying, succinct and engaging way how Andor became who he is in Rogue One. But more than that it's finally put a reason to why the Empire is loathed and powerful, why so many people would engage in fighting them at the chance of dying or succeeding in the same manner Andor gives at the end of episode 12. For me this is such an important addition to Star Wars. Probably the most important addition since Return of the Jedi, to be honest.
