The real 1970s/1980s Vader wouldn’t have done what he did at the end of RO. He would have just sent in his Stormtroopers first, like he did on the Tantive IV and Echo Base at Hoth.

All that lightsaber twirling, slashing and force spamming he does is Prequel/video game tier. It was over the top and stupid.

Also, why does Vader act like such a primadonna in this scene?

His erratic movement as Krennic is talking, the way he throws his head back and getting all flippant and saucy. He’s acting like a teenage girl. Speaking of transmissions, couldn’t Krennic have just instant messaged Vader? Imagine how long it takes Vader to get dressed. Krennic interrupted him for that?

Vader’s scenes are dumb in that movie.

Vader is acting like a teenage girl? WTF? Quit hitting the crack pipe. And also batman is a complete rip-off!

Plus in the original movie after Vader talks about how plans were "beamed to the ship" an Imperial Officer tells him that no transmissions were made aboard said ship.

Doesn’t that just mean they weren’t retransmitted to a third party?

I guess you could argue “beamed to this ship” is just a more convenient way of saying “beamed to another ship and transferred by hand to this one”.

He's entitled to his own opinion. :)

LMMFAO Are you 4?

Yeah you're right. Ep III would be so much more beloved if we saw Anakin decapitating the younglings one by one in a single fluid motion. And then tossing his saber to bissect the ones that tried to run. And one was dying on the ground and begging to be spared he crushes her skull beneath her boot til her green brains ooze out of her split head.

That's the kind of ultra exciting action that's always been missing from SW. At least your precious Rogue One scene is finally a step in the right direction.

I am so very sorry that I offended your delicate sensitivities. Take your pill.

Not trolling at all. It was just straight up murder porn. We the audience get an almost orgasmic rush watching Vader slaughter desperate men that had no fighting chance to survive. They were crapping their pants in terror of him and he slaughtered them all like animals. It was something I could always imagine as part of the lore but never had any desire to see. I thought it was way over the top, way too brutal, and having way too much fun with the pointless deaths of dozens of men. I found it more nauseating and sad than "fun" and "thrilling.'

You thought THAT was graphic and brutal? Perhaps you should stick with rated G films although the Mufasa trample scene in Lion King might be a bit much for you.

One other thing that I want to add here. If the 1970's/80's Vader wouldn't slaughter Rebels then the refresh button does need to be clicked on the character of Darth Vader. I mean if the Stormtroopers killed those Rebel Fleet Troopers at the end of Rogue One it would be as much of a rehashed remade scene that it would make the force awakens blush. I'm pretty sure that the Stormtroopers were busy in another part of The Profundity while the force propelled Vader down the dark corridor to try to retrieve the Death Star plans as stated in the Rogue One novel. And I still don't know where difabio got the idea that Vader was "acting like a teenage girl" from after all he's not kylo ren and Rogue One is not the sequel trilogy thank God.

The Vader murder rampage was made with just a little too much "glee" for my liking. They were reveling in the idea of Darth Vader "unleashed" and murdering as many people as quickly and gruesomely as he could.

I'm no prude. I just thought it was tacky and pandering to the lowest common denominator. Hordes of fanboys in their late 30s no doubt, screaming in the theater with their violence boner saying "YESS! We waiting decades for this!! MORE BLOOD! MORE BEHEADINGS!!"

For all of the wonderful things SW has given us over the last four decades for someone to say "OMG you guize did you see Evil Mean VADER slaughter all those defenseless losers it was EPIC!! EPICCCCC!!!!"

That's the scene that defines SW to you? Not "Great shot kid, that was one in a million" or the hundreds and hundreds of others?

Nope. It's "arhghgh Noooo agjkgjgj" as Vader dance and makes swooshy sounds twirling his sword around?

Well. Disney knows their audience I guess.

People keeps on saying that Vader twirled his lightsaber around in Rogue One but I fail to see it. Vader's sabering during the darkened corridor scene is the perfect mix of prequel trilogy and original trilogy. Don't forget that he one-handed the lightsaber in The Empire Strikes Back. And also when and where was the blood and beheadings? The only blood in the Disney Star Wars era was smeared all over finn's helmet. So why aren't you complaining about that gruesomeness?

Look, all I'm saying is, the scene was done in bad taste, as a direct "gift" to SW fans that wanted realistic and graphic slaughter.

It is what it is, but I personally was not at all impressed by it. It felt as cold and calculated as the rest of the Disney SW products, and was just mean spirited and ugly.

I know a lot of people LOVED it. Whooping and screaming and stuff. But it felt like a video game to me. This is a guy that can barely walk and had a slow motion fight with Kenobi a few hours/days later, yet he's slamming things against the wall with his force powers while simultaneously slicing people up?

Pandering. Fan ******y. Just plain rubbed me the wrong way. If you liked it, I'm happy for you. You can enjoy it again and again. But that scene, as well as the entire movie Rogue One, was one of the most worthless wastes of my time as a SW fan. I'm just a guy. It's just my opinion. There's no need to start calling me names or start a flame war.

I just prefer the heart and soul of the original movies. I have no need for these soulless products in my life and I sure as hell would never consider any scenes from them a "defining moment."

You are just as entitled to your opinion of course, so if slaughter Vader is what you love and it floats your boat, then by all means, please enjoy it.

If you don't mind my asking, are you an older woman that believes in the positivity movement (that there can be nothing even remotely negative or perceived as such)? You come across as a very delicate flower who has extremely fragile sensitivities. I've never come across anyone this bird-brained on a forum before. And you forget that in the original Star Wars movie there was a scene where someone had an arm chopped off complete with BLOOD and two older people burned to death with their grisly charred skeletons in full view!!

And before I start my post by ripping you a new *******, I stopped and remembered that you are a person that willingly identifies as an "asexual autistic" so I think any further communication with you would be an utter waste of my time. I think I'll get a more intelligent response out of the houseplant here in my room.

I've clarified what I meant several times already. The other posters, most of them regulars here, didn't seem to have a problem understanding what I was saying, and some even agreed that it was a gratuitous unnecessary scene that looks like it was from a video game and added nothing to the Star Wars films as a whole.

I understand also that autists have a lot of trouble reading social cues or relating to other people and apparently that applies to reading messages as well as interacting in real life.

As I already said, I'm happy for you that you enjoy the slaughter and can watch on repeat on your blu ray over and over and work yourself into a frenzy when that red lightsaber comes out. I suppose I and the rest of the "old women's positivity movement" will just have to make due with the original trilogy, where the aforementioned "charred corpses" served as a very real and emotional turning point to the movie, not just something to salivate and **** over. Same with the severed arm in the cantina, that proves in quick flash of violence that this old desert hermit isn't full of crap...he really is the warrior he claims he was.

At any rate, autism is a very real and debilitating condition. One of my nephews has it and every day is a struggle for him. He's certainly not asexual though, cause he laughs and giggles every time he sees ****ies on TV. I wish you the best of luck dealing with your struggles as well.

Um I don't think that anyone salivated or wanked over the Vader corridor scene. That scene is basically the very first time that we actually get to see what Vader can do with non-Jedi/non-force user enemy combatants and it was/is an overwhelmingly cinematic scene. And I forgot to post this the last time Vader picked up and physically choked Captain Antilles and also got into his TIE-Advanced and slaughtered a ton of Rebel pilots so the "Vader wouldn't kill people, he would instead send his Stormtroopers in" is a very moot point. Have a blessed life.

If anything the RO scene is shot very restrained in the style of low budget horror where you don’t see most of the gore or violence. Most of what you see are reactions and Vader working his way down the hallway. Most of the rebels were killed by blaster fire that was deflected back to them. You actually don’t see any of them being slashed by Vader except the one where he sliced the guy on the ceiling and also the stab the other through the blastdoor and even then you don’t actually see the guy being cut into half and the stabbing is nothing we have not actually seen in a SW movie before.

And let’s face it, if that scene wasn’t in there, most of you would be saying it is a major missed opportunity. RO could be the only time we will ever get a chance to see Vader in a majorly badass moment which the PT totally bungled.

I would agree that it is gratuitous violence if that scene turned out to be the rumoured one where he fought an army of rebels and brought down x-wings with the force like in the marvel comics. That would have been super OTT.

Instead we got a tastefully done and perfectly edited scene that totally blows the cinema of the roof in every screening I was in at that time (watched it four times in the cinema and I can tell you no one walk out of the cinema hating the scene).

It really is one of the greatest sequences in the Saga isn't it. Right when you think that RO put all its cards on the table you're hit with this moment that is shocking and terrifying in its own right while retroactively making the greatest villain in the history of cinema somehow even more badass. It really delivered the most you could possibly hope for in a prequel IMO.

What is each STAR WARS film's singular defining moment...?

This should be good.
