Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Hopefully she doesn't mean more major episodes. But if VIII and IX both crack $2b globally, I fear this is inevitable...

Hmmmm misspelled installments.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

The next 10 years.

Man, I thought things were bad when a movie couldn't stand on its own without a sequel possibility.

Now, if it doesn't have "10 years worth of exploitation" then forget it. Thanks a lot Marvel. Wonderful legacy left to this generation. Eight franchises to be regurgitated into infinity.

Yeah "just" a trilogy of films is considered a failure these days....

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

So Abrams says the final instalment will tie all three trilogies together.

Any thoughts on how he can do this *without* Snoke being Plagueis (or Palpatine/Anakin/whoever)?

A token appearance by Hayden doesn't count.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Porgs will return in Episode 9.

Turns out Porgs have been behind the scenes throughout the entire saga, and JJ is just the man to show us how magical these little love critters are.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Anyone know anything more about the interview that Daisy has given where she says she's done and out after IX?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

They all say they're done after X.

Guinness said he had no interest in coming back after Star Wars. Yet he showed up time and time again. You usually say you're done when you want more money. But in this case, by the time Disney would need Rey again, Ridley will be more than available.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I read that interview with Daisy. To me it came off as her taking on too many projects and being exhausted. She is probably afraid of having a career of only star wars movies. Though I would understand if she is afraid her whole career will be star wars. This quotes stood out for me as I interpreted it as her wanting to believe she will not have the same fate of CF where she is mostly recognized as Rey:

"Back in 2015, Ridley told me she was fine with the idea of being seen as Rey forever, the way Fisher was always Leia. Now she's changed her mind. "There are literally no similarities with Carrie's story and mine," she says, adding that while Fisher ultimately embraced writing over acting, she plans on continuing to "inhabit" as many characters as possible."

Of course this could all be the writer throwing in quotes that make it seem like she wants out more than she does. In any case, I am surprised if she is done after IX. I kind of figured Disney signed the new people on to 6 movie deals like the marvel people do.

In any case, regardless of what she thinks now, I bet we will be seeing many, many more movies about Rey unless Ridley becomes the next big thing. Because money.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

No reason for her to do anything else in this universe after the trilogy.

Maybe, maybe when they do 10-11-12 they may need her to connect to some new storyline in the way the OT cast has here. But since this trilogy is so recent and these newer movies (including the PT) have yet to prove they have the resonance and draw that the OT does, we will see if Daisy makes a future appearance in the same way Hayden made one in this trilogy.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

I certainly hope the Last Jedi makes Rey and the other new characters more appealing. If not, Disney may have a huge problem in moving forward with future films. Ideally, Rey wouldn't have anything to do after this trilogy because her story is resolved and there would be a long time before the next saga trilogy. However, the only way I see Disney waiting too long before the next main saga entry is if Rian Johnson's trilogy lights the world on fire. If all the upcoming films are perceived as non-essential side projects then I bet the next film dealing with the "Skywalker" clan will be coming pretty quickly after IX. The question will be whether Disney will have any interesting characters to base those films on.

Personally, i don't find Rey, Finn, Ren, and Poe to be offensive, except for Rey's issue of being too powerful. I just don't have an emotional attachment to them like I do the OT characters. I also think my opinion of these characters is influenced by the fact that they are associated with a film that crapped on the OT characters I actually do care about.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Problem for me is, in the new canon, Mon Mothma decomissioned 90% of the New Republic military.

https://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Military_Disarmament_Act

It gave us crappy looking ships and tech that the Resistance had to piece together and thus not much conflict for space IMO. I think that was a big mistake since in the real world, on this world, you cannot get ANY country to cut their military by 90%. Doesn't help that they just repeated ANH and ESB battles.

I think Lucasfilm screwed themselves (probably thanks to Abrams script) and will end the episodic movies at 9. Which is why they have Rian doing a new trilogy that is entirely new.

Probably wish they went with Rian in the first place. :lol

JJ and Kasdan are ****ing hacks.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

Daisy now says she was misquoted after a long day's filming.

That is possible that she was misquoted or just feeling burned out. It is also possible that she got a call from someone at Lucasfilm telling her that her comments were not okay.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

So if JJ plans to bring all three trilogies together, can he do that without Anakin's ghost?

I envisage Anakin either bringing Kylo back from the brink, or commending him after the fact.

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019

JJ is going to make his "IW" version of Star Wars by bringing back every character ever from the saga... Anakin, Sebulba, Han Solo, young AND old, Leia, Tarkin (CGI version), ewoks, Jar-Jar, one-half of Snoke, and.... if we're lucky... just maybe.... a story.
