Re: Star Wars: Episode IX - December 20, 2019
After seeing the character designs and the poster reveal, these are my predictions for the characters shown.
Finn: When John Boyega said that there was a story reason for his longer hair in Ep9, the easy conclusion was that it'd be because of a time jump from TLJ. But a time jump doesn't mean he wouldn't be able to get a haircut. Instead, I think he found his heritage (after meeting up with Jannah, who I think is going to be his sister) and is embracing his true identity that was stolen from him by the First Order.
Poe: The neckerchief he's wearing seems more symbolic than practical. My guess is that it's a reminder of Leia. His arc will conclude with being an inspired leader who will not let Leia's legacy of fighting for peace be erased by the First Order. Poe might even end up dying to save her dream.
Rey: She repairs the lightsaber with guidance from Ghost Luke. Her white costume is to help distinguish her journey from Luke's. Instead of being a potential Dark Side recruit who wears black throughout the movie, she is 100% Light Side who cannot be tempted or swayed. Her purity draws the Ben Solo out of Kylo at the end.
C-3PO: Holding Chewie's bowcaster and bandoleer, along with Rey's staff, means that the two of them need to go somewhere that forces them to leave their weapons behind. Maybe a sacred place, or maybe just underwater. They hand their stuff to 3PO until they get back, and make for a nice lighthearted visual.
Kylo and the KOR: Kylo goes completely power-hungry and obsessed with fulfilling the Vader legacy. Hux stays more practical and decides to take command of the FO against Kylo and the KOR. The red troopers belong to Kylo (red representing rage), and the white troopers stay with Hux. Kylo wins, only to have his depleted army ultimately defeated by the Resistance.
The stupid Jar Jar Jr. slug alien in the poster: comic relief, and ultimately a horrendously bad idea.
The purple Power Ranger: I got nothing. I'm just hoping for something more worthwhile than a Zam Wesell kind of character.
I'll probably be wrong on every one of these, but I like guessing where the filmmakers are going with this stuff.
