I can't say I really see how it's dumbed down. I think the storytelling has been really solid. I see a lot of adults gurgling and harumphing but I have yet to understand what they are going on about. At least, it's no more dumbed down that Star Wars has ever been. It's a space fantasy. I've always thought part of the appeal of the original trilogy was that it was fast paced, fun and didn't worry about whether everything always made sense. I'm a big Star Trek fan, but part of the appeal of Star Wars is that it was not concerned with some of the things Trek was. It was an adventure story with great characters moving through some pretty basic plots. That's not to say that it hasn't evolved into more over the years or there aren't different kinds of Star Wars stories are out there, but I think the tone they are trying to strike here is a good one. An inclusive one, too, to get people excited about a new era of Star Wars. But that's just my take on it.

I agree with everything you said, except for me to date, there aren't great characters in this show. The character development so far (I've seen three episodes) is horribly dumbed-down and viciously cliché. Accompany this with what you accurately described as a basic plot structure, and that is how I see it as dumbed down. I withhold my opinions from him so it is not to interfere with his enjoyment, but, my nine-year old son was excited but is also a little underwhelmed so far. We'll see, shows like this sometimes take time, I wasn't keen on Ashoka at first either, maybe some of these characters will grow on me.

Why not just cut your losses now since it's clearly not for you:dunno You've already wasted an hour or so.

.....Because I'm willing to give anything Star Wars the benefit of the doubt. Why do guys like you spend time on discussion boards when you clearly dislike reading other viewpoints on anything? :dunno See how that works?

The show definitely sucks. When's the next episode, I can hardly wait?

(sigh) I didn't say it was completly unwatchable, it IS Star Wars and there are environmental elements that I do enjoy. Jesus Christ, are people not allowed to be on the fence about anything THREE episodes in?

LOL. I seriously get grumpy when I do to Disney XD, and it says 'log in to your provider to view' yet no option for my particular provider...ARGH!!!!!

We take our SW seriously man..........! So no

lol, If that was the case you ought to have some issues with the show too. But I digress, Seriously, I hope that's tongue and cheek there. I was hoping to actually have some discussion on the show, maybe someone could tell me why they LIKE the characters so far, give me something to think about, a reason to give it more leeway moving forward. But no, since I'm not mindlessly ball-washing the show's producers (many of whom, I do respect their previous work) I've just been met with bad zingers and snark. I'll keep watching because I know you can't judge a show by the first three episodes, at least I'll keep my open mind while some of you apparently are so loyal to the branding that you can't approach it with any sense of objectivity.

Viewpoints are allowed, it's that when people treat it like a complaint board and just don't stop is when it's enough already. THAT'S how it works:wink1:

Ok, I see, and who gets to be the judge on when someone goes beyond critique and is just flat out complaining? You? I was STATING that I was giving the show the benefit of the doubt and YOU told me not to bother. Seriously, because my viewpoint was not in line with yours, it was not welcome.

Yes, I run these boards and I'm telling you that if you're just gonna keep complaining about a show that you're going to keep watching, then it's not a "discussion" and you're actually better off just buying yourself a diary of some sort next time you buy your plastic crap.

Then ban me. You clearly can't decipher between someone critiquing and someone 'complaining.' Go back and read ALL of my posts today, I'm not completely raking the show up and down, I'm giving my opinions, I'm being fair to the point of acknowledging that the show is in its infancy, but to date it’s been disappointing, and here's why I think that. I'm not attacking anyone, I have not gotten personal, I've merely stated my contentions and defended them, in addition to welcoming anyone to give theirs. But if this is so deplorable to you, then I want nothing to do with a site that is moderated by such thin-skinned individuals.
Seriously, ban me.

(sigh) I didn't say it was completly unwatchable,

I wasn't replying specifically to your post. Go back and read what I had to say about it earlier. And while my post was supposed to be humor, in the grand scheme of things, it does kind of suck. Is it as good as Archer or South Park? No, not by a long shot. If it wasn't Star Wars, there's no way this would make it anywhere near my watch list. I give it a HUGE pass because of that.

Everyone gets to be judge, jury and executioner. This is a publicly accessible forum. Sit back and relax, you're getting really worked up over nothing.

That's fair. I completly agree. I also watch it because I like having a show I can watch with my nine year old and my six year old. (putting aside my own fanboy opinions)

You are right, hence the reason I wasn't taking too kindly to the rent-a-cop attitude I was getting from the poster I was going back and forth on this with.

Stop being so thin-skinned:lol Let's grow up and move on already.

Dude, I'm not being thin-skinned. I already stated out my case very thoughtfully and felt you responded with nothing but gif antics and veiled threats. Here's the thing, I work for a media company that has legal associations with Disney, so I cannot give my opinions publically in forums such as facebook due to a possible conflict of interest. (If you thought I was bitching about it you ought to read a few of those comments, btw) So I am going to come back here periodically and give an impression or two about the show. I LOVE Star Wars, I have given Lucasfilm many a pretty penny over the years including to many of the main sponsors of this site, therefore, I'm going to speak my mind fairly about this show, sometimes I use humor that can come off as possibly abrasive, but it is not meant that way. If this is really an issue then please, ban me.
Otherwise, you're correct, let's just drop it and go have a 'virtual' beer together.

I like the show for what it is. It's not perfect but neither was the OT.

I've said the exact thing about the prequels for years. I do feel almost all the main characters to date have had a bit of a Scrappy-Doo syndrome, hopefully with some Ashoka-like character developement I'll really get into the show.

The last episode I watched (the one where they steal a tie fighter) was a bit too childish for me, but then I remembered it's a children's cartoon and I'm a 39 year old man, so perhaps the fault is not with the show.

Star Wars has always, at its heart been for children. Even The Empire Strikes Back has always been marketed as a family movie. That said, there are so many shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Avatar, heck, even Spongebob, that are children's shows that can be silly but actually talk up to kids, not down. My nine year old told me that he is dissapointed that the show (Rebels) was making the stormtroopers as dumb as the battle droids were in Clone Wars. This didn't sit right with him, because to him, stormtroopers are human and not mass-produced droids.
Kids are smarter than the producers are currently giving them credit.
