So I want to understand this. Vader delegated the Jedi hunting to someone else but personally oversaw the capture of the Tantive IV and Princess Leia? I guess he had his priorities straight.

I don't understand why there is a continual mission from everyone in SW to diminish everything the actual Darth Vader we came to fear and love ever represented. For such an awesome costume and presence its a shame that ROTS didn't feature him and now when they have a chance to make it right they feel the need to make a male version of Assaj Ventress to do all the dirty work. LAME AS ****. They keep making Vader more and more look like a ***** puppet of the Emperor. One that isn't even trusted to take out the jedi. He just walks around threatening puny Imperial officers and old men.

That's kind of what I wanted to say yesterday. It seems like every expectation people had based on lines from the OT is being defied, first by Lucas himself with his eventual PT and now these guys.

Luke, you will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda, the jedi master who instructed me

Nnnope. Turns out Qui-Gon Jinn primarily instructed Obi-wan

When I first knew him, your father was already a great pilot, but I was amazed how strongly the force was with him. I took it upon myself to train him as a jedi

Nnnope. Turns out Qui-Gon Jinn discovered and decided to train Anakin. Obi-wan only took on the job out of a sense of obligation to his own dying master. Sight unseen he actually refers to Anakin as 'another pathetic lifeform'

Leia, do you remember your mother, your real mother?

Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.....she was kind...but sad

Oh so ''very young'' meant ''when I literally had just popped out of her womb''. Yet Leia is supposed to know that Padme was 'kind but sad'? And in this instance by the way even Lucas's original plan conformed with everyone's presumption - see here:

Then there's all the stuff in ANH where Ben talks about Owen Lars and Anakin where its implied these three had more contact with eachother than Lucas was bothered to show in the PT. Obi-wan doesn't even meet Lars till the very end of ROTS. So all of that potentially interesting stuff was left off screen. Not enough scope for CG crap I suppose.

The whole concept of the Clone Wars was another thing that defied people's expectations. Who knew that the clones were 'the goodies' and they'd be fighting against droid armies.

Because they want to keep finding new characters to sell Hasbro figures and t-shirts.

That's exactly it. Every new character created has a monetary value attached. They can basically print money by constantly introducing new characters. Vader is Vader and will sell no matter what. How do we make more money? Hmm.. New bad guy. That's an extra xxxxx$ in the bank.

For this same reason they will never let go of the prequel characters, maybe they will push them aside temporarily but not for long, each is an investment. Even Jar Jar.

If they showed Vader tracking down all the Jedi, everybody would be *****ing and whining about how they always use the same people over and over, and are incapable of coming up with fresh ideas. You can't please SW fans. :lol

To be honest I always saw it as Vader leading a Jedi exterminating army/battalion. Yeah, sure he got his hands dirty, face to face with the important Jedi, but left the bait and chase to his minions. Like a nazi/SS extermination death crew. I think the idea that he did it alone is wrong. It certainly has nazi thematic similarities, almost the everything about The Empire was WWII inspired.

But like a great many other things since thrown to the wind, Obi did suggest that Vader did it "murdered your father" which leads one to believe he brutally killed Jedi himself, but then also says that Vader "helped" the Empire hunt down and kill the last of the Jedi. So any interpretation of that is valid really.

Perhaps. But then yet another sith apprentice is hardly what anyone could call a fresh idea at this point.

IMHO on Star Trek they overused Klingons, Borg, and several other baddies to the point where a trailer for next weeks episode would make me go "Oh sh-- not again!"

They can't overuse the OT characters. Luke lives on a remote, dusty sh-thole planet and never did anything with his life before the droids show up. I don't want to see him in this series.

Vader needs to be re-built into a formidable villain. There's a lot of PT to wash off. If he's in the show every few episodes they will diminish him further.

Thing is the supporting Sith characters generally don't hold a candle to Vader. I agree that they shouldn't overuse Vader but some action with him would be welcome. Lucas certainly alluded back in ANH that Vader actively hunted down the stragglers, so let's see some of that. Enough with the BS PT template of 'tell, don't show'.

Yeeeaaah, but Ben could've simply been referencing yoda training him as a youngling.

Nnnope. Turns out Qui-Gon Jinn discovered and decided to train Anakin. Obi-wan only took on the job out of a sense of obligation to his own dying master. Sight unseen he actually refers to Anakin as 'another pathetic lifeform'

When he met him he was a great pilot, Obi-Wan wasn't really amazed by him as you said he called him pathetic, but he did 'take it upon myself to train him as a jedi' in lieu of Qui-Gon so he wasn't lying in 2/3 points.

Being devils advocate and inspired by that "robot chicken - certain point of view" song and dance number, I must point out the following (and no, I don't buy it either :lol)..

"Luke, you will go to the Dagobah system. There you will learn from Yoda, the jedi master who instructed me"
Well, Yoda did instruct Obi-Wan on a regular basis*.

"When I first knew him, your father was already a great pilot, but I was amazed how strongly the force was with him. I took it upon myself to train him as a jedi"
Well, he did take it on himself after Qui-Gon died, he trained Anakin*

"Leia, do you remember your mother, your real mother?
Just a little bit. She died when I was very young.....she was kind...but sad"
Well, Leia has a force connection with her mother because of Anakin's Midichlorian rich sperm. So she did have memories and a sense of her, just not a mortal one*.

*From a certain point of view.

:lol

I know you can rationalise some of these things but the point I was making was that they defied everyone's presumptions about it pre-1999. And it seems like that is continuing with this new sith lord Vader is contracting out to hunt down the remaining jedi. I suppose I'm rhetorically asking ''can't anything play out as we were led to believe it would with these various lines in the OT''?

Look - I'm a SW die hard, I'm proud to admit it. :lol

Honestly though, SW continuity over the years between the films & various associated media, just reminds me of that famous old Abbot & Costello skit 'Who's On First'.

Plenty of facepalms to go round for everyone. :lol
