Most of the Darths have another name.

I'm still sceptical, but if he *does* turn out to be Plagueis it would nicely tie the three trilogies together. Like to know more about what he was plotting with Anakin's immaculate conception.

Well, it is if you've been following the rumors and leaks, if you haven't then it's probably gonna be news for you.

Yeah that would be him.

Ok, cool and thanks. That is actually awesome. Nice tie in with the prequels and the GL era

So if this supreme taco guy is really Plagueis...why are they calling him by a different name? It's Star Trek Into Darkness all over again :lol
Maybe this guy is the real Phantom Menace....lol

I wouldn't be surprised either way. Kasdan wasn't a fan of the prequels and I can't see him going out of his way to reference them. But for the saga to hang together he kinda has to.

Still, I'd settle for an appearance by Ghost Ani.

Same. I would also be cool with McGregor back in some way. That man had the thankless task of appearing in all three prequels, and the scenes he was on screen were among my fav

Canon is just somebody else's headcanon created for marketing purposes.

Don't be dictated to.
Yeah, that somebody else's headcanon just turns out to be the official one which will dictate the future developments of said IP, so it's not like it's inconsequential even if you choose to ignore it.

I'm all for headcanon, and it can be more important to oneself more than the official canon.

I'm just saying, there is canon, and there is headcanon.

But even official canon changes, like they did in preparation for these new films in order to create 'surprises'.

If this thing runs long enough it'll happen all over again with the post Episode VII EU. :thud:

Nah, this canon is here for the long haul. It's been set up properly this time with the Lucasfilm Story Group in control. Rebooting again would only create more confusion.

Speaking of canon, I wonder if Trek will ever get rebooted (though I guess it kinda did with the Abramsverse). Trek Prime is way unwieldy.

Reminds me how Roddenberry wanted the original series stricken from the canon cos TNG was closer to his original vision - rather like George and the SE.

Speaking of headcanon - the Trek Abramsverse doesn't happen in mine.

Never heard that about Roddenberry and his original show. If he wanted the show stricken from canon what would that have meant for the Kirk movies? Obviously it didn't happen and in fact Deep Space Nine cemented the Original Series in canon even more by having it's characters time travel back into the Tribble's episode.

It was set up carefully in the '90s when the Thrawn Trilogy was released. Much of the technology and lore was drawn from the old WEG RPG sourcebooks which in turn drew from the novelizations of the films and the earliest book tie-ins. GL even had some influence over parts of it. He gave notes to Zahn about the Clone Wars, he vetoed the Clone Vader storyline of Dark Empire and suggested a Clone Palpatine instead, and lastly he shot down killing off Luke Skywalker in the NJO series. A team also was put into place to ensure future books built off of one another and didn't conflict with one another. It wasn't until the Prequels came about that alot of retconning had to take place but they didn't start from scratch.

In 25 years there will be so many books, comics, video games, and movies this new canon will become as convoluted as the last and someone at Disney/LFL will find it easiest just to hit the reset button again now that they've done it once.

:goodpost:

Refuse to be a slave to marketing decisions and everybody set your own canon.

^^:lol:lol:lol :exactly:

There's actually a thread for this discussion isn't there. Anyway so far the canon for me is just the original 3 films.

I'm forced to admit that my canon will be smaller than a lot of other guys' canons. (LOL)

But if there's anyone out there who doesn't even count ROTJ in their headcanon then at least my canon won't be the smallest.

Not really. Granted, much of the newer EU was considered canon but George reserved the right to override it as he saw fit. He even referred to it as a "parallel" universe.

The Jedi Holocron was an attempt to pull together all the old and new EU and make it fit. But a lot of the EU was made up as they were going along, particularly in the OT and pre-PT eras. Still, I did love a lot of it, from the original Marvel series to SOTE, the Thrawn trilogy and Dark Empire.

At least the new canon has the benefit of knowledge of what happened in the prequel era and what will happen in the sequel era, so it has a much more solid foundation than the EU had.
