I think SW is the tip of the iceberg for some of these fellas dislike......it had to be a bad personal experience

Saw it last night, 7/10. Enjoyable enough, but the wheels really came loose during the second act. Wasn't a patch on the OT. In fact I liked ROTS more than this.

Nah, it's not anger or hate.

Disney is a corporate Pac-Man is all . . . they gobble up everything and discharge formulaic product.
That's just a very basic reality, like product placement or audience pandering.

The point is: no one with brains thinks Mel Brooks hired David Lynch to direct this movie.


(True hate and anger should be saved for Adam Sandler movies . . .

One aspect working against J.J. is he has to establish all-new villains. The prequels felt more "epic" in a way because they were dealing with Vader and Palps.

That said, Kylo is arguably a more interesting villain, as he's a sympathetic character and unpredictable.

I think having a Palpatine ghost as the initial threat and having a still living and breathing Plagueis as the main threat would have worked. A Kylo Ren Vader obsessed wannabe Sith could have easily been worked in as the muscle villain. It certainly would have connected things a bit more. Oh well.

It's as though the PT never happened. Gone are the stupid planets, idiot creatures, superfluous set-pieces, naff dialogue, tedious policy debate and performances straight out of the Shakespearean playhouse.

The writing was good, the pacing was solid, the story arcs well managed, the action set pieces brilliantly choreographed and shot, the locations visually luscious and real, and there were some predictable but enjoyable throwbacks to the OT (as well as at least one jab at George Lucas' revisionism).

There were a few things that were a bit hmm, but I've just come out of the theatre with a very satisfied glow and I'm going to enjoy that for a while.

I'm not sure that Han shooting first makes sense now. The reason it worked well in the original film, was because it showed a transition and an evolution of a character becoming a better person...or a good guy, by the end of the film and trilogy. For him to shoot first now it would be a step backwards, imo....unless, he's like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven.

Agree completely with LeJuan, I just got home from a screening and I can't wipe the smile off my face.

After TPM I spent ages trying to find a justification for why I should like it because it was Star Wars, this time I can just enjoy a really good movie set in my favorite fictional universe.

It has some blank spots (but even ESB has a few - blasphemy I know) but looks beautiful, is well acted, has heart and sense of humour and is a lot of fun while leaving a bunch of questions that will hopefully be answered in the future.

Ford was awesome and the new cast was great.

It doesn't have the same sense of wonder that I got from watching ANH for the first time, but that's probably impossible to recreate. As a movie though, it's at least as good IMO even if it is derivitive

One of the newspapers I read is a right proper bastard when it comes to spoilers. I wasn't going to risk knowing everything that happens before seeing it
