The weird thing about Episode IX for me is that I swear Disney officially announced Johnson as directing both Episode 8 and 9. Did Johnson back out of 9? Or was he never fully attached?

No, he was never attached to direct, only to work the first script (which will actually just be a full Treatment).

Unfortunately, Kennedy's other choice for SW director has gone off to make Batman movies... :monkey3 I still can't figure out how we got Trevorrow, though. Other than, again, the simple fact that JW made gobs of money. But that's just such a different convention that all of the other hires. :huh

I'm still utterly stumped by the Trevorrow hire. Now THAT sounds like an Iger/Disney Exec decision. "Hey, JURASSIC WORLD is pretty bad, but it made a gazillion bucks. Get that guy." :lol

Yes, this. It's ****ing bizarre, for a while I hoped that he was a frontman for Spielberg.
The idea of him having any "creative" input in this universe is appalling.

I liked JW for what it was, it was silly fun, but it had zero directorial vision apart from the beard pulling the strings at time behind the scenes.
:(

Rey will run in heels in E9. :lol

So will Chewie! :yess: :lol

And it'll be revealed that Leia and Chewie had a love child. :lecture :lol

And that completely dumbed-down script! :google That was completely at Trevorrow's feet.

ZACH??????????

It was Affleck, you goobs. :lol

He was actually in talks about potentially taking on EP7 before Abrams finally agreed. That process was longer than people realize. Abrams prolonged it because he turned it down as many as 2 times before changing is mind. Luckily for him it wasn't too late, BUT I still think that's part of the reason why the movie ended up getting pushed 6 months. By the time everything was finalized there wasn't enough time to rewrite the script for a May 2015 release date.

I think it all worked out in the end.

Still worried about EP9, though.

Now that TFA was successful, I'm thinking it's probably easier to attach talented Directors to the films. If Treverrow were removed from Ep. 9, who would you want to direct?

One of my choices is unconventional: Michelle MacLaren. She worked closely with Rian Johnson on "Breaking Bad" and directed some great episodes of that show as well as "Game of Thrones", "The Walking Dead"; and more.

Bonus: As she's female, it would shut up the SJW complaints about "too many white dude directors" on SW. :lol

I don't know that she'd be my #1 choice, but she's up there.

I'd consider Alex Garland, too.

They (and many others) would be miles better choices than Trevorrow.

I thought Adam Arkin did a pretty damn good job of coming in and directing the last two episodes of the most recent Fargo series and wrapping everything up in epic fashion. Maybe he would have been able to do the same with Star Wars.
