Max Von Sydow's character. You know, the old man who almost gives away Kylo Ren's true identity 2 minutes into the movie. ;)

Her chewing was annoying and felt like a forced character moment.

I disagree. I think it's cute. And it's probably the only moment in the movie where Rey actually seems like a 19 year old girl.

The whole scavenging plot is really disturbing. The fact that everybody on Jakku has too work hard and get parts for that creature just to eat :panic:

Can't believe Rey wanted to return there, yes I know she thought her parents were coming back for her.

Luke was pretty lucky if you think about it, growing up. He had people taking care of him, had a job too.

Anakin was a slave and Rey grew up alone being a scavenger

JAWS I feel like you and I are so on the same page about films from the 70's/80's (SW, ESB, ALIENS, Terminator) but then things just go sideways the farther we move from those. As an expirement I'm going to list some of my absolute Top Shelf films from 2000 until now (filtering out all the flash in the pans/guilty pleasures/etc.) and I want to see if you look at that list and go "Sweet!" or "I hate them all!" :lol

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Memento
LOTR trilogy
Black Hawk Down
Insomnia
Spirited Away
Lost in Translation
Whale Rider
Captain America: The First Avenger
Les Miserables
Extended Hobbit Trilogy
Before Sunset
Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Boyhood
Birdman
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Ex Machina
The Force Awakens
Brooklyn
The VVitch

Now where do I lose you? With just a few of those or almost the whole damn thing? :lol

FUN!!

Ok here is the list AS you can see there I no hate really. I did not hate TFA... I just did not come close to liking it as much as you. I am not a huge fan of Dramas as they tend to just be depressing so that is why I had not seen some of those films.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (Love)
Memento (Liked it )
LOTR trilogy (Love)
Black Hawk Down (Love)
Insomnia (Ok)
Spirited Away (never saw)
Lost in Translation (never saw)
Whale Rider (never saw)
Captain America: The First Avenger (Ok)
Les Miserables (never saw)
Extended Hobbit Trilogy (When I watched the EE over a weeks time I enjoyed them much more. I did not care for the last two in the theater at all)Before Sunset (Never saw)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (Freaking Loved It!!!)
Boyhood (Never saw)
Birdman (I liked it but then as time went on I started to hate it :) )
The Grand Budapest Hotel (did not watch... don't like his other films)
Ex Machina (Loved it)
The Force Awakens (Ok)
Brooklyn (did not watch)
The VVitch (You know I loved it)

So you can see there is not any Hate for your favs... I just may not have seen or only thought was OK. Birdman was cool but more of a Novelty movie IMO

Here are some others that I love from 2000 on. I am leaving off the obvious like the first two Nolan Batman films and the first Avengers.

Training Day
Collateral
Gone Baby Gone
Blood Diamond
Unbreakable
Book Of Eli
The Raid and The Raid 2
Prisoners
The Town
The Hateful Eight
Django Unchained'
Whiplash
The Fighter
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty
Nightcrawler
Sinister
I Saw the Devil
The Reef
Both Planet of the Apes films
Cloverfield
Krampus
Tron Legacy (Better then TFA :) )
Man on Fire
13 Hours

So do I lose you??

I think we agree most the time. You are just more forgiving of films like AoU which I hated and hate more each time I watch it and TFA and BvS... Both films I liked just not as much as you.

Sometimes I want to punch her in her perfect teeth.

You know that's what I thought but some of these recent "event" movies with threads where we both show up tend to be the ones where I try (and usually succeed) to go along for the ride where you, as you say, aren't quite as forgiving. ;) Otherwise we seem pretty in sync and it all comes down to degrees of like/dislike.

As for your list:

Training Day --LOVED, probably should have included it on mine I just haven't revisited it in at least 10 years
Collateral--Didn't see
Gone Baby Gone--Didn't see
Blood Diamond--Upsetting but that was the point, a very well made film
Unbreakable--Loved it until the last 5 minutes
Book Of Eli--Pretty good (I'm actually surprised this made your list, I wouldn't have guessed)
The Raid and The Raid 2 (Once Netflix effing gets these films I'll finally be able to see them, until then...still haven't)
Prisoners--Didn't see
The Town--Didn't see
The Hateful Eight--Tarantino reviewed to release the Roadshow version in my city so I said "eff him, I'm not paying to be punished by what he publicly calls a lesser version of the film." If it is ever released on blu-ray that's the version I'll watch.
Django Unchained'--First 2/3 loved, final 1/3 I thought was very poor
Whiplash--VERY good!
The Fighter--VERY good!
Silver Linings Playbook--Again, very good
Zero Dark Thirty--Still haven't seen
Nightcrawler--Haven't seen

Looks like I've a ways to go to catch up to you. :)
Sinister
I Saw the Devil
The Reef
Both Planet of the Apes films
Cloverfield
Krampus
Tron Legacy (Better then TFA )
Man on Fire
13 Hours

"The First Order rose from the Dark Side, you did not...You cannot deny the truth that is your FAMILY." On repeat viewings it does seem like a pretty specific indication of who Kylo is right from the get go. :lol

Don't forget, "Something far worse has happened to you." and "I know where you come from... Before you called yourself Kylo Ren."

:lol

Literally every line Lor San Tekka has in that exchange is about who Kylo Ren is:

Kylo Ren: Look how old you've become.

Lor San Tekka: Something far worse has happened to you.

Kylo Ren: You know what I've come for.

Lor San Tekka: I know where you come from, before you called yourself "Kylo Ren".

Kylo Ren: The map to Skywalker. We know you found it. And now you're going to give it to the First Order.

Lor San Tekka: The First Order rose from the Dark Side. You did not.

Kylo Ren: I'll show you the Dark Side.

Lor San Tekka: You may try. But you cannot deny the truth that is your family.

Kylo Ren: You're so right.

By the way, that last line by Kylo :rock That (and the striking him down) is a galactic mic drop. :lol

Sometimes I want to punch her in her perfect teeth.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that gif :hi5:

Even Jye-Bane would be no match for her. She would dodge his fist and land a punishing blow to his stomach followed by a swift elbow to the back, grounding him. A submission hold around the neck would see an end to his last resistance.
