Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

There was more (''it won't be easy for you to hear but you must'' :lol ) but I chose the most interesting bits. Here's another pic with Carrie:

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Anyway, I actually side with Lucas on the whole not killing anyone thing.

What amazed me to read though was his original intention for Yoda as merely a 'guru' :lol That he wouldn't actually be a match for Darth Vader. Something changed there when he made AOTC, I can't tell what.

Also the backstory with Luke and Leia's mum that makes far more sense than what he actually ended up writing.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Killing people brings drama. Yeah, as a kid I was a mega ***** about it, but it's better. It's better to kill.

That would have made it too serious. I thought you were against that sort of thing in this post-Nolan Batman world. Reading what Lucas was saying to Kasdan - that could be you.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

There's a difference from being deadly serious, and taking a story seriously. Lucas was wrong. It's not *for* kids. It's for everyone. In theory. Empire Strikes Back is still a fun film, but it has serious moments. Those serious moments make it endearing.

They don't have to end it grim-dark or anything. But killing Han...could work.

****, that's LESS dark then murdering children, and turning someone into a burning hunk of flesh....

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

That article is proof that George Lucas didn't have the whole prequel trilogy in his head while he was making the Original Trilogy and was just making up the prequel **** as he was going along.

It says all this and more,

- no midiclorian ****, anyone can use the force (he straight up says that)

- Anakin is just a regular dude, not some slave chosen one thing

- Leia actually spent time with "Mrs. Skywalker", not "she died from being ******** after hearing robotic oohh-bahhs

That may be a good point. But ROTJ was supposed to be a triumphant ending to a saga. Killing a main character just might have been too much of a downer. When you have a celebratory ending you have to be careful about not creating a total inconsistency with character emotions - i.e - would they realistically want to celebrate the defeat of the empire if Han was killed in the process.

Not to mention, they had already frozen Han and taken away a year of his life. They then spend the first half of the film rescuing him...only to then kill him?

I say if you were going to kill anyone it would be Lando. Having said that I'm glad they didn't kill him either.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Not if you give him a hero's death.

If he just gets randomly capped...then yeah. That's a downer.

Pretty much why I posted these things. His original backstory is actually much closer to what I had in mind pre 1999 than what he finally put on screen.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Lando was going to die. That Falcon wasn't supposed to come back (remember Han's bad feeling that it might be the last time he'd ever see it again).

But George doesn't kill. Not even Ben and Yoda stay dead.

I bet his original idea for the "Clone Wars" was much cooler in the 80s than what it ended up being.

Making Boba Fett a kiwi clone still pisses me off. I'll never forgive Uncle George after he over dubbed the original voice of Fett in Empire. I'm just glad he didn't do that to the Stormtroopers (who all seem like regular dudes talking about their speeders).

Yeah Stormies were probably part of the inspiration for the henchman's stories in Austin Powers.

Oh man. I haven't seen those since my kids outgrew them a while ago.... makes me remember dem times when my children were wee. :monkey2

I love the announcer guy. He totally hates his existence, and wants to die.

JJ has a huge weight on his back now...

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

But George doesn't kill. Not even Ben and Yoda stay dead.

That just triggered thoughts of Batman as a Hollywood screenwriter, in his Bale Bat-voice, in a pitch meeting: "No, we don't kill. That's the easy way. Our way is better." :rotfl
