:lol

My initial reaction, was to give you both barrels for that ^ .. but there's no point.

Regardless of how much work the lady puts in, there's always going to be obnoxious comments like that floating around.

Just a bit of Aussie humor there, don't take it too seriously!

Although I will admit my wife and I literally gasped when she had the cameo on TBBT not long ago. She was a stunning woman back in the day (especially in the blues brothers) and I find it a little sad what she has done to herself with all that 80's excess.

Nice shopping Jye, maybe my citizenship should be revoked, huh? :lol

Fair enough Deedzy - from one countryman to another, I simply didn't read it that way. :peace

Nah - don't agree with those examples.

ALIEN - best.

T2 - best.

:lecture

:exactly::goodpost:

It's probably true, though. I have sisters and cousins much younger than myself that think the OT is boring in comparison to the PT.

Cuz kids are ****ing stupid. Including mine.

I fully expect Star Wars Episode VII to just trot out returning characters and references in the blunt style of your average Family Guy episode, a parade of nostalgic callbacks that will drive the lowest common denominators in the audience crazy. One callback that won't happen? An appearance by Rebellion star pilot Wedge Antilles, who participated in both Death Star battles as well as the rout at Hoth, was floated by actor Dennis Lawson, who turned it down.

“They asked me but it just would have bored me," he said at a screening of his new film The Machine.

Lawson had previously said he would return if the role of Wedge was beefed up; he's clearly been influenced by the weird cult of Wedge that sprung up, leading to the character headlining his own novels and comics and stuff. His comments make it seem like Wedge would probably have just been a cameo as opposed to a fully fleshed out role.

It's for the best - why the hell do we want every single character to show up again this time around? Anyone bemoaning the lack of a Wedge Antilles - a cute background character - loses the right to make 'small universe' complaints.

Wedge can't be bought. :yess:

Yeah, probably not enough money. :lol

Come here and let me give you a wedgie a-dev

Hey, you used a wedge joke. :lol

I never understood the obsession with Wedge. What's so special about him? That he's the only background rebel character to survive? :lol

Obsession? I've never known anyone who would put Wedge in their top 5 or 10 characters of all time. Well, unless that person was an avid reader of the EU:

I'm not sure if I was fascinated by Wedge so much before or after I read the X-Wing series. My memory of the mythos is blurred because I was reading the EU within a year of seeing the OT for the first time. They're indistinguishable to me at times. But from purely from a movie goers viewpoint, Wedge is kind of a fascinating character. In fact, I think he has more of a character arc than Princess Leia who remains mostly the same throughout the entire trilogy.

You named the main appeal of the guy. He's in all three movies and he survived every battle. No other Rebel fighter pilot can make that claim other than Luke Skywalker himself. Wedge might not have a clear character arc due to limited screentime, but he does show growth in each film. In ANH it seems he is an inexperienced pilot. He is chastised for unnecessary comm chatter and he almost gets himself blown out of the sky by Vader's flight wing. The only reason he survives is because Luke orders him out of the trench knowing he's incapable of doing the job properly. But that said, he isn't some bumbling buffoon either. When Luke couldn't shake the TIE off his six, he called out for help. He named his best friend Biggs by name. Who came to his rescue instead? Wedge did. In ESB, Wedge is back and this time Luke calls out to him to help him trip the AT-AT because he doesn't have a gunner anymore. Surely Luke would call out to the best pilot in his squadron to complete that task, right? Recall Luke doesn't call out to Wedge first but instead calls out to Rogue 2. He must've been Luke's go-to-guy at that point of the war. But that go-to-guy gets blown up and then who does Luke call next? Wedge. So he's not the best pilot yet but apparently he's third in command and/or skill. Both Luke and Rogue 2 attempted to trip the AT-AT. Neither of them could. But Wedge did. Luke gets blown out of the sky eventually. Wedge doesn't. In RotJ, Wedge is now the leader of Rogue Squadron and he's the one to destroy the Death Star this time around instead of Luke. He wasn't just some random pilot this time around but appears to have taken over the role Luke once served and gave up to further his Jedi training. And we see him in one last scene of the trilogy with all the heroes celebrating in the Ewok Village.

I think it's a shame Wedge isn't in the sequels but I completely respect the actor for turning them down. That's his call to make. I'm just happy that Abrams and Disney reached out to him. That also might hint that there will be some X-Wing action in these. Or perhaps instead just some generic military general/adviser/tactician will have a role and it was originally to be filled by Wedge.

This thread reminds me of the jeep scene at the start of Zoolander.
Now where are my matches...
