While the TPM Yoda puppet was an abomination in general I have no problem at all seeing them in SW. And I also like ewoks.

Not enough lens flare from Heisenberg's teeth. No Ewok son for you. :thwak

This isn't the set of Labyrinth 2? Looks straight out of a Henson movie! That's not a bad thing. I love seeing the practical effects in use. I wonder if that guy is an extra or if he's going to be a character with a speaking role.

From a fan point of view...This is the sequel that should be subtitled "A New Hope". :)

I'm going to be in the minority here, but I really do not like that merchant. He looks straight out of a Jim Henson film, and not Star Wars. I hope this is just a nod to Henson, rather than what the creatures in the film are going to end up like. I want Star Wars, not The Muppets.

Still, I prefer this muppet merchant over poorly CG'd characters. However I am okay with CG characters if they are photorealistic, like Gollum.

If Disney and JJ were smart, it will be a mix of both with hopefully neither method over done.

Is that supposed to be Tatooine, again? lol Are they going to find Luke as an old hermit on Tatooine and be like one of those movies where they go all over, picking up their long lost friends for one last mission?

Right there with you!!! When I saw that thing, I was like WTF! Is this going to be Star Wars or the PT????

Love the realistic effects that Muppet looks great, keep it real like the Empire yoda.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

Not a fan of puppets, it's 2014 move on with the times. I know there's lots of fans that love the puppets, I'm just not one of them. Also the TPM Yoda was the worst puppet in the history of puppets.
As for Luke being a hermit, I hope it's not the case but either way I'm sure the story and JJ will do Star Wars justice; more so than Lucas could ever do at this stage in the game. OT was amazing, everything else he's done with SW since has been meh.
1138 haha, congrats, I'll be there some day...I just don't post much but need to get on that.

Yay for live action creatures and suits in a live action film. If you want CG cartoons....well we've had plenty enough of that the past few years.

I have to agree about the puppets. I don't think the great fan outcry against the prequels was the lack of puppets. It was because NOTHING was real. NOTHING felt real. Watch the makings of and all you see is a rat maze of blue and green screens with actors in front. In the hands of a CGI addict like Lucas, the technology was perverted and not used to enhance or make creatures/settings look more realistic. Jackson in the LOTR and Hobbit movies used it a lot more judiciously as have others. So I hope the new ones aren't going to make everything look like 1983 again.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (12/18/15) Discussion Thread

I'd like all the scenes to be in a real environment, for some that isn't possible but you're def correct when you say JL killed it with over use of CGI. Favorite scenes ever in SW were all in the OT with real environments and real actors.

I think JJ struck a good balance between live sets and CGI in his Star Trek films. Hopefully he will do so again with these movies, but I agree it can't look like 1983 and I'm sure it won't.
