Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I heard a story on the radio today that in the US they're having a vote to see if they can build a Death Star, is there any truth in this or has that nut on this thread from a week or so managed to get people believing about Disney's evil world domination?

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Craptacular story. But strangely enough Harrison Ford was pretty good. Not every Director can work with Ford.

+1 Faverau

I wouldn't even give him a - on that movie. I forgot it the moment I walked out of the theater.
He can keep his pluses.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Iron man is a good film, but not much depth or rewatch value IMO.

Agreed. It was a chore to watch a second time and I haven't tried since. IM2 was a chore to watch the first time and I haven't tried that one ever since either.

I liked "Cowboys and Aliens..." Ford was good in it and Daniel Craig was a badass. What more did you want to see from a movie with such a ridiculous title? :dunno

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I'm starting to wonder if Iron Man is suffering from TPM syndrome where people loved it when they first saw it but now are starting to hate on it because it's the hipster thing to do post-Avengers.

Why on earth would it be "hip" to hate on the movie that started the whole Marvel Cinematic Universe that *led* to The Avengers? That doesn't make any sense.

You tell me. It's the new "fad," I guess. I can't even blame the Nolancompoops for it either because there're people who don't like TDKR but suddenly, after Avengers exploded at the box office, think IM is overrated. :cuckoo: :lol

Iron Man is kind of funny. I wouldn't call it a spectacular movie that really makes me excited to watch it but it's just so damn solid I can't really complain about it either. It isn't great, but it works.

^^^ That's how it starts. :lol

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I don't know about folks who used to like the Star Wars prequels but now don't (I always disliked them personally), but it makes some sense that Iron Man may not hold up over time. That happens with lots of things. It was fresh and innovative when it came out. Now, we've seen his character multiple times and lots of sequels and other movies in that universe that have actually improved on what Iron Man 1 did. Things don't always stay fresh. Some people like Wofford were maligning Cap and Thor, calling them average, but a big part of that was probably expectations, which only went up after Iron Man. I bet if they came out before Iron Man people would have loved them much more.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I loved the first Iron Man film, have watched it again recently and I think it still holds up.

Iron Man 2 was a lesser film, but I think people rip on it unfairly. It had problems but it's entertaining. "But, but, It should'a been Deamon In a Glass Bottle!" Shut up. It practically was.

Avengers was a better Iron Man sequel than IM2. I like seeing Tony surrounded by people who operate on or near his level. He shows respect to Banner. It's a different side to him.

To all the people who have decided they hate Iron Man you may PM me and I will tell you my address and you can give me your HT collections.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

Eh, I've always found it "good not great." Nothing new since Avengers.

Yeah. I've never thought it was a great movie. I don't own it. I don't buy movies unless I plan on rewatching them often (a minimum of once a year). I haven't seen "Iron Man" since 2008 and haven't had a huge desire to see it since. "Thor," on the otherhand, is a movie I bought the day it came out and have seen it a half dozen times since. It's the only Marvel Universe movie I own. Until I get "Avengers" that is.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VII (2015) Discussion Thread

I own all the Marvel Studios films on Bluray and recently decided to let my 9 year olds watch them. The favorites seem to be IM1 and The Incredible Hulk (maybe a tossup with Thor).

I totally agree with that. Not sure why people hate that one so much. It isn't great, but it isn't poopie. I thought Sam Rockwell was masterful. As was Gary Shandling :lol

I think the bar keeps getting raised for superhero movies, I still quite like the first Iron Man. Thor was pretty average, take it or leave it. I was quite happy with Captain America as well, perhaps it was the World War 2 setting that added to my enjoyment. On the other hand, I find myself less impressed with (Raimi's) Spiderman than I was when it came out. As filmgoers we have been treated to some very good adaptations, and I think it does make it harder to impress as our expectations adjust as the movies get better.
