Your son just got hooked on Luke and now you plan to show him TLJ? That's borderline child abuse.

The grown man in this video literally cries because of what KK & co did to Luke. He's an Iraq war veteran.

He says one of the things that helped him decide not to kill himself was that he looked forward to seeing Luke in TLJ.

:lol:lol:lol:lol the last jedi gave this guy PTSD :lol:lol

Yeah no doubt that is him exactly.

I just rewatched RO with my son that 3rd act remains insanely awesome.

After two viewings of TLJ I can safely say that I love that film and that some of the scenes are truly ESB-level quality however there's now no doubt that RO > TFA/TLJ. RO is just so awesome from beginning to end, *especially* that end. :rock

My son is now hooked on Battlefront 2 which btw has a great Poe Xwing ability that is fun to use.

Soon I'll be right there with you guys! :yess:

I told him young Luke is a little like crows always whining but much more charming. :lol

:lol :lol

Then again maybe i’ll just cancel those plans and have Spazz lecture him instead lol

:lol :lol

Holdo is nothing new.

Holdo is absolutely a different character designed to be KK’s alter ego in TLJ :lol. You only see the common thread as Leah, Mon Mothma, Holdo = strong women? That’s all you see? That they’re the same sex?

I was never particularly impressed with Mon Mothma. She's in one scene in ROTJ as a talking head basically, providing exposition. She got so emo with her lines about Bothans dying, and was such a bummer. At least Madine and Ackbar weren't such downers.

And she didn’t have a Halo :)

You’re right, I think that’s the point, the same people who are complaining how TLJ handled it were fine with how it was done before. It’s not about the fact that women or multiracial people are there, it’s just how poorly written it all is, and what the characters are meant to convey. Of course anyone may disagree, but that’s my qualm, and I know it’s true for many others as well. I love leia, and I am old enough to have grown up with the OT, but I still hate the way they’ve done the new movies, outside of rogue one. I even like padme with her flaws, and I like mace windu, Jango Fett, Lando etc.

And you’re right, it’s not groundbreaking, I’m not sure why no one gets that.. Star Wars had one of the most loved female characters of all time, and no one had a problem with her. In that interview with gwendoline christie she honestly believes she’s doing groundbreaking work for Star Wars(“there was nothing like this back in 77”), same for Kelly Tran whatever her third name was.

So maybe we need to try to understand what the difference is this time instead of thinking people are just sexist all of a sudden.

it’s amazing that you can spell it out clear as day just like you did above, and the defenders will ignore this post and go straight to the name calling “sexist, racist”.

I would be most grateful however if everyone stopped posting Utube videos to bolster their point of view....most of the videos posted are from people who carry zero weight in the world and no one should be looking to them to support and point of view.

Utube personalities are the soap box preachers of the modern age.....

I find some of the youtube videos funny and entertaining. I hope people keep posting them. I think the problem is there aren't many videos supporting those who liked the film as to the many of those that don't. It would be just as fun watching those who praise the movie who can't seem to acknowledge all its flaws. And I've even seen things I didn't even think of, like "Shouldn't Luke's metal hand have clunked to the ground when he went all force ghost?" :lol

Also, these forums are 1st and foremost about collecting. I believe that's how most of us found our way here, at least I did. Talking about other topics is secondary for most. I also find it ironic your talking about peoples opinions that carry no weight in the world. Are you telling me you've never based your decision to buy some collectible based on a youtube review or pics and opinions of members posted on these very forums your a part of? Wouldn't those peoples opinions also carry no weight in the world??

Alright so Ruin confirmed it, we have Kathleen Kennedy to thank for the space Leia scene.

Jaws likes the grannies :lecture

and this...

The foremost annoying thing about it all to me is that the producers and makers of these films act like it's groundbreaking, talk about it like it's groundbreaking and fish for applause as if it's groundbreaking. Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton would like to interject with an ''Ahem''. It's the self-congratulation and praise-seeking that I find really shallow and cringeworthy. By all means cast women and 'people of colour' in prominent roles, but I do wish they'd STFU about it in promoting the films..and of course the media could do with shutting up aswell - a lot of it comes from them. If they ask a question it's going to be answered. And then the reactions from the right and even the middle (apparently easily misconstrued as the right) makes the left go up in arms again, it all feeds itself. Just a non-stop cycle. I'm sick of it all to be honest.

A-freaking-men! :clap

As much as I love these new movies I often wish that the filmmakers would just stop talking about them as they often come across as elevating their own films and decisions higher than they actually are. Gareth Edwards really was the best in that regard. All he ever said was that he felt like a kid in a candy store making a SW film and left it at that.

Good to see we agree here.. I feel much better :lol :)

Some maybe? Personally, I don’t think anyone is racist or sexist, simply because they’re complaining about the PC agenda and the feminist aspect of the film. Not that I even really acknowledged any of that during my viewing.

I will say this though, merely adding Holdo between the previous film and TLJ sure has lit the fire.

I remember as a kid just thinking Mon Mothma was cool because she was another female in the SW film. I also thought it was cool that she seemed to be in charge. Which in 83 did not seem to be something we saw a lot.. Not in Kid movies anyways. Even as a kid I thought it was something Unique.

Now I like her even more due to her expanded role in RO.

There's a 1.35GB/1.42GB copy of the film out now (categorized as HDTC720P). The picture's a lot better and it has the opening crawl.

Now you can go and check the things you might've missed in the cinema more easily. :monkey3

It would have been cool if the actress who played her in ROTJ was still alive. I wonder if anyone would have complained if it was Mothma instead of Holdo who talked down to Poe and then rammed the FO at lightspeed.

Well its about time you come around to my way of thinking..

I said this many pages ago :lol

Make it Mon Mothma, Ackbar, or Lando and not only would the audience not care that Poe was being talked down too... There would have been some legit drama on who's side are you suppose to be on... AND the Hyperspace suicide would have been more meaningful, more dramatic and much more earned.

What's interesting is if it was one of the three characters you mentioned we as the audience would probably have very specific assumptions as to who they were talking about when telling Poe "I know your kind; impulsive, dangerous and exactly what we don't need right now."

If Ackbar said it we could assume he was saying "we don't need a crazy ROTJ Lando right now."

If Lando said it we could assume he meant "we don't need a crazy Han Solo right now."

And Mon Mothma would have us assuming she meant "we don't need a crazy Jyn Erso right now."

It definitely would have been cool to have that extra layer of context to the dialogue. That said I still am fine with Dern's portrayal of Holdo and the fact that she was a brand new character. But yeah it definitely would have been cool to see how it would have played with someone else as well.
