Interesting question. People do tend to want to see the same stuff over and over , Rocky proves that.

I think it would take a lot to make these 3 as unpopular as PT.

I think part of the reason TFA was so popular was the fact it simply was not PT...

I think TFA's luster is wearing off. TLJ will be a huge determining factor on whether we look back at TFA more fondly or look back more distasteful.

The full venom of PT hate didn't start rolling until AOTC. People still hoped, like now, that Lucas would "make up" for TPM with his 2nd chapter. Once AOTC dropped, it was all over. Even the much better ROTS couldn't undo what had been set in motion.

Rots is a fantastic movie that to this day is held above th other two.

But hey no matter what happens you lose .being different will destroy fanbases and being the same will bore people. Hopefully star wArs can do both cause anh is highly overrated imo.

Good post, I will give TFA , with the familiar plot line, a much higher starting pointing than TPM, but you are correct.

What REALLY. Concerns me is the cast and how they keep saying how shocking and different this is. I cannot tell if that hype or the cast trying to covertly say people are going to hate it.

People hate it already because it's Disney, but Disney and different from what we expect from SW? That could be a troll playground.

One franchise proves everything?

TFA was popular because most people who saw it loved Rey, BB8, Finn, Kylo etc etc.

the movie will be popular forever. You might not care for it anymore because of whatever reasons you have, but that is not how a lot of the world views it. It doesn't make $2 Billion worldwide by accident.

:exactly:

moderation is key to everything. some boardies have watched it SO much that they hate it now, they get bored. That tends to happen after 50 views in 2 years. :lol

I can only speak for myself in saying that I needed TFA to be good after the PT kick in the nuts.

I needed SW to be great again.

I needed my childhood love of the OT franchise to be protected.

I needed the world to love SW again.

They did all that. :lol

regardless of how you feel about the flick, a whole older and new generation is rewatching and experiencing 40 year old movies now because of TFA.

That rarely ever happens.

:lol yeah pretty much. they get "bored" with "everything".

If you can't enjoy TFA for entertainment then man, idk. its pretty sad, really it is. I have probably watched it 50 times and i love it every time. :)

The film was the first new entry in 10 years in a almost universally beloved franchise that appealed to nostalgia in its marketing at every opportunity. That film would have made an insane amount of money no matter what it did.

I don't think TFA is as popular as some here might think. Toys sales are one indication. Personally, I don't know anyone -- or their kids -- who thinks TFA was great. It's just another Star Wars movie to most. More will follow. As they have for decades. It's nothing earth-shattering anymore. The first one had a curiosity factor, PLUS the original cast, so it made a lot of money because few things bring people out like Star Wars. But the trick wears thin quickly now. It's been 40 years.

Pretty much this but also the fact that everyone wanted SW "fixed" sure put alot of asses in seats lol.
