Snoke is basically the SW take on Vampires. He doesn't eat "food" but rather needs to drink blood for sustainance because of his "reanimated" state.

The whole thing reminds me of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Even his Royal Guards look like soldiers from the Order of the Dragon.
