Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I liked the movie as an after-OT movie. The OT will always be it's own thing, no one is ever going to come close, so I think we have to just accept it and just enjoy this "extra" stuff we get. I do feel the comparison to Guardians of the Galaxy was a good point, a lot of pushing you to laugh. And that was my only true complaint. It felt like it was too much. Otherwise I didn't mind all the crazy adventures. But looking back, I mean when the Princess had just been rescued... Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper? You came and rescued me in that piece of junk? Star Wars was always about being kinda funny, which is what makes it relateable. But even with all that in mind... they push it a little too far which makes it feel more like how people are saying, Marvel style Slapstick, which works for Marvel because it's cartoons and comicbooks so it's acceptable. This movie could've had the same laughs but didn't have to be so dialed in, could've been more subtle.

Aside from that, I honestly liked the movie. I liked that Rey had no backstory, I liked that Snoke got snuffed to allow Kylo to unfold as the main villain for the next movie, I don't think there's anything they could've done to make Phasma any cooler, she had her battle what more can they do for her, so that was a lost cause either way. And I also agree the opening beginning was amazing, and Rose's sister, probably would've preferred to follow her than 90% of the rest of the characters. So I like how someone mentioned that in this thread also. It's totally true. That was a really awesome moment and showed the bravery the rebellion had facing certain unfavorable odds.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I always find the relationship between people and the critics to be interesting.

You personally hated the film but critics gush about it: critics are crazy because you say it sucked.
You personally hated the film and critics also hated it: proof it was a bad film because critics also hated it.
You personally loved the film but critics hated it: critics are crazy because you say it's good.

Guaranteed if the OT came out today and we didn't grow up with them, people here would say they sucked. :lol

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I liked that Rey had no backstory

Still hoping this is a lie by Kylo not because I need another Skywalker (or worse Kenobi) but because that just plainly justifies all the complains about her being super power in TFA. I mean, the superblooded Luke Skywalker barely dodges blasts from a training droid, Nowhere Rey kicks Kylo butt= nonsense. It's just another point that makes you think that Johnson wanted his own story so he needed to get rid of all the stuff JJ suggested.

Now that the characters have been seen in action, do any of you think the guards were worth all the merchandise hype

Their battle with Kylo/Rey was the best scene of the movie, if not the whole franchise for me. So yes. Way more so than Phasma.

I blame JJ. He has a history of doing this (on "Lost"). I think they had a plan, but the fans figured it all out immediately, so in his arrogance, JJ started trying other ideas, whatever hadn't been guessed... and we end up with this.

In the end (Ep. 9), just like Lost, it will end the exact way so many guessed and the way JJ continued to deny right until the end.

What do you think the ending will be? .

Yes, Wor. Tell us the "ending." :wave

Normally I leave a new Star Wars film pumped and excited and over time the films real worth becomes clearer but it wasn't like that with this one. Two days on and I still can't decide what I think about this film. Plenty of issues and faults in it but some really good and interesting parts as well. Totally on the fence for this film right now!

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I like the fact that you can become powerful in the Force without a significant heritage. She doesn’t need to be a Skywalker/Solo/Kenobi.

However I do wish we had seen more training, maybe her and Luke going to different old Jedi places (Jedha maybe) and training.

As for the humor, I think they pushed it without going to far for my taste. i might not like it, but I think that is what most casual moviegoers want.

It was a fun and great ride. And all the people saying it was predictable (my FB fees is full off them) are full of ****. If there is one thing it was not, it’s predictable. I almost felt at times they went to far in that direction, like the critique agains TFA being a rehash was burning in the back of everyones head.

What is there to think about? If you saw it and you didn't love it, you didn't love it. Nobody is going to take your "fan" card away.

Untrue - this pic was taken after a TLJ screening yesterday. Guy posted that he was on the fence, next thing he's pulled over.

I'm predicting HT Yoda selling out this weekend at SS because of his cameo. :lol

I don't love it, that is no issue. I don't think it is terrible either. So I am in the camp of its OK which is weird for me for a Star Wars film. I hand my fan card in every couple of years and then usually reapply for a new one at a later point!

What do you think the ending will be? Agree with you on Lost. Such a letdown of an ending that proves they had no answers for many questions they raised.

Yes, Wor. Tell us the "ending." :wave

I've been touting the ending since long before TFA was released, though I said Rey is Luke's daughter (which JJ has decided to change perhaps -- but Kylo could also be wrong) -- I still believe Rey has Skywalker blood somehow.

Here's the ending: Kylo will sacrifice himself to save Rey and his action will stop the FO and true evil, bring balance to the force, and allow him to complete his goal: to finish what Vader had started (meaning ending evil). Luke was always to die in sacrifice (has happened) and Leia will likely die in the next one given her real-life situation, although I believe she was originally intended to be the lone survivor of the OT before her untimely death.

That's how it was always planned, and that is how it will end. It has to.

I liked it........

Rain Johnson did say it was different than other SW movies. I accept that. I will see it again for sure. The film was a visual splender!!

Saw the spoilers on that scene..looks great but I'll wait on getting the guard merch later, too many guards and too much money for the quality guard figures :slap

Save Rey from what?

It seems like TLJ is making Kylo the main villain, unless Snoke is still alive or some other villain shows up?

Grace mentioned in her review that Rey seemed to have taken a backseat to Kylo in this movie, and that the story seems to be now Kylo's story, because he's a Skywalker/Solo. I don't know if you felt that way when watching the film, but I do wonder how can Rey maintain her status as the focus of the story, when Kylo is the only Skywalker/ Solo in a franchise that belongs to the Skywalkers.

However, the film seems to indicate that there are more Jedi to come that aren't necessarily related to the Skywalker family, so Rey indeed could be a nobody, which if that's the case then maybe Disney is moving away from the Skywalker tree, with the future hero/heroes having different backgrounds.

I don't see this story ending anytime soon. If anything, Kylo and Rey might end up together and creating a super force baby, which I believe you also predicted a while ago. "Force baby will hand both of their *****", if I remember correctly :lol

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Disney wrote themselves into a corner. They threw out the future that had already been written so they could create new mysteries and surprises. But having thrown out all that work that fit seamlessly into the style and feeling of the OT, they ended up making something that's essentially meaningless. The difference left me feeling...indifferent.

Doubt I'll ever feel that the ST is canon. It's more an exercise in getting out three films to create a blank canvas for further indifferent films.
Totally the st is an alternative universe for me.
Sad times
