Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

God, am I relieved to see negative comments on this movie! I was sick of seeing only dithyrambic reviews, "best star wars ever", "star wars is born again" and all that *****. Has everybody become insane?!

That movie pissed me off. It totally flips the bird to all the Star Wars lore, it throws it away just like Luke throws the saber over his shoulder at the begining of the movie. Like "meh, don't care, that's old trash". And then you have Kylo Ren giving us crap like "Jedi, Sith, Rebels, all this belongs to the past, let's move on to new things". Right, we got the message loud and clear, that's new SW for new audiences.

So many things were revolting I don't even know where to start. I was annoyed and even embarrassed by so many scenes. The useless arcs, the whole universe that just looks like Earth in 50 years, from Scotland to Monaco, to a salt lake, the giant plot holes, the Pokemons, the lame humor, from the first scene to astral Luke brushing his shoulder after being shot at. Why does everything has to be a comedy, nowadays?! Takes away any epic-ness. Man, it was awful.

As soon as I came back, I put the few figures I already had back into their boxes and into storage. I've been open to most thing SW until now, even the PT, even VII, which I was not into but found watchable. But that VIII is too far gone for me.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Just seen it. Appalling from start to the tedious, drawn out end, absolutely awful, in every single department - writing, acting, vfx work, production design, editing, pacing.. even basic things such as the framing of shots was bad. At times - many, many times - it looked like a bad soap, or Doctor Who or something. Desperate. And beyond disappointing.

Genuinely shocked by how terrible it is. Pretty much the entire screening seemed to be in agreement judging by what could be heard being said as everyone left en masse; bolting for the exit the instant it finally stopped. Even a few people gamely asking for their money back in the foyer.

If I were Johnson, or any of the younger actors, I would be worried. There's no hiding what an awful film they've made. I'm amazed it got signed off for release, in all honesty.

.

That seems to be the real message of the movie, if there is one.

It's OK. The new audience will have their turn in 15-20 years too.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

If only they HAD moved on to new things. That's the least of its problems. It's simply a bloody awful example of filmmaking.

Plans don't always come together, TLJ is an example.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

This is the worst Star Wars since AOTC.

I think AOTC still holds up as Worst Star Wars film ever though. I think.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

The prequels look like masterpieces compared with The Last Jedi. AOTC was most certainly very bad and especially boring - it's greatest crime IMO - but it wasn't abjectly awful in the way this one is.

So your saying that all the new Star Wars films are just baseless cash grabs?

Would having Han still alive in this film would've made a difference in the film :dunno

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

And what was the point of casting Benicio Del Toro in this? Anyone could have played his part. All that ******** secrecy about his character and for what? Such a waste of his talent.

I didn't mind that character. I didn't like Benicio's take. Also, the hunt to acquire him was too long and included a lame "lesson" that had nothing to do with anything. But the criminal trickster/betrayer is a great classic character archetype (like Lando).

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

Just got back from this and I am so disappointed ... This must be how you OT fans felt when you first saw AOTC, oh boy that Phantom Menace movie was bad but it had some redeeming qualities (real sets and Darth maul was cool), I'm sure they will learn from their mistakes and the next one will be loads better....

I left my TFA screening mostly happy, sure it wasn't the best movie but it felt like Star Wars (over time I have soured towards a bit upon rewatching it). Not so for TLJ, I left feeling deflated, let down and depressed about how Luke was handled. Everyone has already touched on the many many things that didn't work so I won't rehash them again. I'm an easy going Star Wars fan - I even find redeeming bits in the prequel trilogy and do rewatch them - but TLJ missed the mark by a huge margin and it's easily the worst SW film for me. It looked stunning at times but the story was an irredeemable mess.

Do you really believe current audiences can focus their attention for such a long period of time? :monkey1

You Sir summed up perfectly my take on Star Wars fandom and feeling going out of TFA AND TLJ.

To say the least.

This movie's place will become quite clear over the next few weeks, when the Star Wars gas wears off.
People comparing this to ESB is quite frankly madness, I have a feeling it will eventually be battling AOTC for it's coveted crown.

This captures my feelings upon seeing it.
