Since when does it ever say you MUST be trained to use the force?

I restate again....this is the point of the movie....you do not need a Jedi master to learn to use the force....you do not have to be of a certain bloodline....it’s born in you and wakes up when it wakes up.....

So to me Rey, and broom boy are one in the same. They have the forces powers and are nobody’s , why is that such a difficult and awful concept for people?

Oh sorry I forgot...microorganisms must be in your cells to have the force.....and you must be from a line of a immaculate conception slave woman to have the force....

Gee all those other Jedi from across the galaxy too....those midichlorians are sex fiends!

No this was my main issue you pointed it out, that is why I hated TFA too because she has no training and can kick ass. Bull ****!!!! Her parents are no ones and now everyone can be a Jedi. WTF

Maybe JJ Abrams will make Rey the chosen one or she'll find something in the books that no one saw, and she'll be special, which is what TFA was hinting. Then again, broom boy implies that anyone anywhere can use the force like they're mutants, so who knows? Maybe Snoke will be back too? It's hard to tell where the next film is going, since TLJ felt more like the last film of a trilogy, than a second act of a story. Most of the characters didn't grow or change either...so...who knows?

The film definitely spelled out the nature/origin/reason for Rey's abilities and it was more than satisfactory to me. :duff

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi SPOILER DISCUSSION THREAD

I stand corrected. I meant crap montage. Amateur montages in general are awful. Awful.

But sure, if people can sit through that, I'm sure all the points Mark and others made are valid and important.

You are forgiven....:hi5: :duff

You don't need to be from a certain bloodline, but you do need to be trained. This is spelled out pretty clearly in the OT. Luke needed weeks of training just to be able to consciously move a few rocks around.

And even a Grand Master Jedi like Yoda took hundreds of years to lift the X-Wing, which must weigh less than the tons of boulders Rey moved.

The film definitely spelled out the nature/origin/reason for Rey's abilities and it was more than satisfactory to me. :duff

Must have missed that. Why did she have the powers she did with no training?

She is self trained through years of intuitive survival scavenging. That was her version of Luke’s running through the jungle with Yoda on his back training. She needs refining though.

Nothing wrong with broom kid. All the little harrry potter kiddies who were hoping for their hogwarts letter to come have now grown up. A new generation of kids need their new hogwarts fantasy...enter broomstick kid. Everyone can be a Jedi!

Equal opportunity. Jeez people. Get up to speed with times.

Intuition maybe. But how did she learn how to control minds or move things?

Thinking about the film again today.. This one IMO had the worst plot of all the SW films.. Again it really was just about Kylo killing Snoke and becoming the leader of the first order everything else was unneeded..

Like I said... The 2nd main story of the rebels being chased by the Empire is a plot that Battlestar Galatica reboot did much better in 45 min.

Never had a SW film been so small in its ideas.. But that is OK they tried something different.. It just failed IMO story wise.

I also hated the "points / lessons" this film was forcing down our throats.. All other SW film are about the story and not "life lessons" Sure Yoda gave some wisdom we all have tried to follow :lol but no "We win this war by saving those we love not killing those we hate"

Hell one may argue that this was even an anti eating meat message with Chewie being unable to complete his meal when he sees what he is eating :lol

Also no good memorable lines so far in either of these films.. IN that way they are just like the PT :)

I also don't mind that the film tries to be multicultural and pro woman in it's casting... Just do a better job with it and write the characters better.

I also no longer think Rose is the worst character in the series

Laura Dern's character now is :)

In my first viewing I liked a lot of it, but disappointed that all those questions that the Force Awakens posed had no good explanation. But in my second viewing, my expectations were tempered, and I enjoyed it thoroughly as a fitting end to the Skywalker family saga and maybe even the series. The Rey/Kylo character arcs also felt completed in this film. Rey realizes she's a natural-born Jedi, Kylo ends up unredeemably evil. The Force is balanced. Hard to think how Episode nine can be anything but redundant and unnecessary. We'll see what JJ comes up with. He's great at first acts; resolutions, not so much.

Yoda and the OT and PT.

Anakin seemed to be the exception because he was the chosen one, and the ONLY thing he did without any training was being able to pod race because he had pretty good reflexes for a human.

Because there's a difference between being force sensitive and having the potential to become a Jedi and mastering techniques used by the Jedi in training or Jedi masters. But hey, anyone can do it now so whatever.

Must have missed that. Why did she have the powers she did with no training?

I took Rey's abilities as a balancing "echo" of Light Side powers that manifested in her as a result of Kylo's accelerated rise in the Dark Arts. Normally such abilities would project through the most receptive trained candidate but since Luke stopped spreading his knowledge and went "off the Force grid" nature had to "find a way" as Ian Malcolm would say and went with Rey. As for why it picked her that's where I think her own demeanor and temperament probably played a huge part which allows her to earn her rise even in the absence of training.

Also SOMEONE had to be the first Jedi however many thousands of years ago and that person would have had no mentor so I can easily assume that something similar is happening with Rey. Snoke's explanation to Kylo is good enough for me.

When has it ever been canon that the force wakes up when it wakes up??

I don't mind that you have the force and can do somethings but she was doing things that were just above and beyond IMO... No reason other then it fit the particular story the writers wanted not that it made any sense with the rest of the film and stories that we know.

Found this on FB.

Mindblown!

They actually already set that up in RO incase people ***** about it but funnily everyone seems to have found something else to ***** about.

I agree, even though it's the middle of a trilogy I think TLJ is quite a satisfying "jumping off" point for the Saga. Luke and Leia are done, mic drop, I'm out, lol.

Of course Abrams could still do something spectacular but with no Han, Luke, or Leia it's hard to imagine him matching TFA/TLJ with just "Rey vs. Kylo Round 2." As you said he's great with setups but finales? Not so much.

Well the force tilted the balance in TFA.. She far surpassed Kylo :lol

I guess now they are just equals..

Lots of guess work we have to make :)

I mean now we are using Jurassic Park logic :lol

Disney does not own Universal yet.. Are they allowed to share the same Universe??
