Still think 1.4 billion is possible- yeah an huge failure:lol

And beating Minions by AT LEAST 10%:clap

Not quite apples-to-apples, but TFA/TLJ comparison of New Years Day BO take (TLJ landing $2.5m less than Rogue One's New Year's Day):

As of today, TLJ is $220m behind TFA domestically at the same point, despite releasing three days earlier on the Christmas calendar (so having three extra "premium" BO days before New Years Day.)

Folks who were trying to declare TLJ a financial failure now have to face the reality that though it was not the 2nd fastest to 300 or 400 million that was based upon when the holidays fell because it was still the 2nd fastest to reach 500 million behind only TFA...the other bitter pill is that in 18 days it has made as much as Rogue One made in its entire 140 days of release...looks like under Kathleen Kennedy's leadership and Rian Johnson's vision Star Wars is going strong. Sorry guys.

Anyone who said TLJ would be a financial failure is clueless. SW brand is the #1 movie brand.

Sure, cos box office performance always equals quality right? Basically SW is too big to fail... for now.

As Khev and myself have mentioned previously, TLJ may well be the jumping-off point for a lot of old-school fans. Only in my case, it's without any hard feelings - I'm happy to pass the torch. TLJ left me with zero curiosity about what happens next.

LFL obviously has to set up a new generation, but I'm sure they would like to have brought the older fans along as well.

Yeah they're tried to change the narrative from "everyone hates this movie" to "everyone loves this movie because the masses suck," and continue to scream just as loudly, lol. TLJ isn't embarrassed, SW isn't embarrassed, the only embarrassment is with the out of touch naysayers who are left with their tears on the wrong side of history. Even Mark Hamill abandoned them. ;)

Yep, a nice bookend end to an epic 40 year Saga...

...spanning six films, OT + TFA/RO/TLJ.

:chase

Most of the audience was still male and older.

So im not sure who their new audience is.

I wouldnt be surprised if they do a disney princess animated star wars movie.
Or do a rey short to show before frozen 2 or something like that.

If they want a girl audience they are gonna have to change their strategy drastically and create something that will appeal to girls only.

It is the only way to change course of this franchise.

Im not even joking. These movies are not really for anyone.
Old fans are leaving and younget female audiences still dont care that much, so...... who will this franchise cater to?

If they can pull off a star wars version of frozen then they will be good

Disney's got a generation of females and numales ahead of them... Frozen/Star Wars sounds about right for them.

They're off to a good start...

Nope...box office performance does not equal quality...most of my favorite films did not make a dime and you would more than likely not recognize most of the titles if I shared them with you...however every once in a while the good guys win one and a high quality film is rewarded with strong box office...this is what happened with TLJ...awesome moment when you can have your love of Star Wars and your love of well crafted cinema successfully co-exist...sorry you did not connect with it but to each their own I guess :)
