it definitely deserves it

this is an honest movie. a real film, not a cash grab flick .

I think i’m ready to jump off the IT train, just like Immortan Joe from Fury Road Pennywise was just too wimpy of a villain.

Shame too because the opening is excellent as was the Georgie basement scene with his brother and the picture lady.

The rest, meh.

hes not wimpy. the kids were being helped by a magical turtle

crows is right, the turtle helped a lot.

this flick definitely deserves it. it's great, probably my favorite horror since cabin in the woods. that flick is a bit played out now though since it's half comedy. IT has a lot of humor too but it's much more rewatchable imo.

Haters gonna Hate

Aside from the "I'm too cool for X modern movie" crowd, I don't think any of us here really hate it - I don't, anyway. Just found it to be pretty average. IMO the kid actors are what really make this somewhat better than what we've gotten for horror the past decade.

definitely deserves it a lot more than stupid stuff like paranormal Activity or Annabelle or the Facebook horror movie or stuff like that.

This movie is special because it didnt rely on jump scares the entire movie and because it didnt cast crappy teenagers or was found footage
the people behind it actually cared to make a good movie and they cared to cast great kid actors and they cared to follow the book. they cared to do it justice.

imagine this directed by the Blumhouse studio....... would be nothing but jump scares every 5 minutes and would have made the kids into their late teens. would probably have made it take place in modern time so that the kids can use iphones. or would have made it found footage or s omethng

Agreed I'm sick of these stupid found footage horror movies and movies about ghost. I miss old monster type movies. Horror icons and the like.
Annabelle and the others is the same song and dance. Little girl gets taken over by some ghost and somebody has to save her. Very tired formula

It did though, every single scare was a jump scare, and a telegraphed one, it's my main complaint, it's no different to Paranormal Activity in this regard.

This one just happens to have a better story around said jump scares.

im not trolling by saying this, but this movie could have very well been an old style frankenstein movie or a Dracula movie or something like that. make this black and white and change the creature and you would have a classical universal monster movie,
those movies weren't even the greatest, they werent high art or anything, they were entertaining for creating a new era of monster movies and for being scary and entertaining and fun. they are classics for coming at the right time and thrilling audiences
the same way IT is thrilling audiences now

A weird thing I just read in the book is that a bird like rodan was chasing mike. It’s not a bad idea to put classic monsters in the film. The part in the book where the creature from black lagoon rips off some kids head is creepy

This reminds me-
For people who enjoyed the book, it's worth reading (or at least wiki-ing) another SK book, 11/22/63. In it, the protagonist time travels from the present back to Derry in the fall after the Losers defeat IT for the first time. In his wanderings around the town he encounters some signs that Pennywise is certainly not finished. And he also runs into a few familiar faces to IT fans...
